🐾 TONIGHT’S PLAN: A LITTLE RALLY, A LITTLE FUN, A LOT OF GOOD DOG STUFF 🐾

Pop-up Rally Obedience class is on tonight! And whether you’re competing this weekend or your dog’s biggest achievement this week has been not eating something questionable off the ground, there’s plenty of good stuff to get out of it. 😂

Rally isn’t just for people chasing titles and ribbons. It’s a brilliant way to build your dog’s:
✨ Focus and engagement around distractions
✨ Loose-lead walking and everyday obedience
✨ Ability to listen, think and respond to you
✨ Confidence working in new environments
✨ Understanding of different cues and exercises

And for handlers? It’s a chance to improve your timing, learn how to work with your dog and have a bit of fun together.

You don’t need a competition goal to enjoy Rally. You just need a dog, some treats and a willingness to give it a go.

🎒 WHAT TO BRING
🐶 Your dog crate
🍗 Plenty of tiny, high-value, soft treats
🧸 A non-squeaky toy
🦮 Flat collar and lead
💧 Water for you both
😄 Your sense of humour because dogs are excellent at keeping us humble

Pop-up class. Real-life skills. Good dogs. Slightly questionable handler footwork.

🚨 TRIAL ENTRIES EXTENDED - AND THERE’S FREE CAKE. WHAT MORE ENCOURAGEMENT DO YOU NEED? 🚨

GDOC Tricks & Rally Trial entries are now open until TUESDAY 15th September!

If you’ve been thinking about entering, this is your sign. Get those entries in and come join us for a weekend of dogs doing their thing, good people and a bit of friendly competition.

And because we’re celebrating GDOC’s 50th birthday, there’s even more reason to come along! 🎉

🐾 FREE sausage sizzle & cake
🐾 Celebrate 50 years of GDOC
🐾 Hang out with like-minded dog people
🐾 Cheer on competitors and soak up the atmosphere
🐾 Enjoy a weekend of dogs, community and probably someone discussing their dog’s toilet habits in far too much detail.

Whether you’re a seasoned competitor or thinking about giving Tricks or Rally a go for the first time, we’d love to see you there.

Come for the trial. Stay for the cake. Find your people. 🐶🎂

🐾 ONE WEEK UNTIL GDOC TRIAL 🐾

This Sunday, 3- 5pm: Tricks, Rally & Agility practice at GDOC.

Same format, another chance to get some competition-style practice in before the real thing next weekend (tricks and rally only).

We’ll be running through courses, signs, tricks and runs, taking turns as handlers, spectators and judges. Because apparently knowing what to do at home and knowing what to do when someone is watching are two entirely different skills. 😂

This is your chance to:
🐾 Practise working with people watching
🐾 Get more comfortable with competition-style runs
🐾 Find the bits that need another look
🐾 Give your dog a chance to practise in a supportive environment
🐾 Work on those little nerves before they turn up wearing a judge’s clipboard

Whether you’re entered in the upcoming trial, thinking about giving it a go, or just keen for some extra practice with your dog, come along!

What to bring:
🐾 Dog crate
🦴 Plenty of high-value, soft treats
🧸 A favourite non-squeaky toy or reward
💧 Water for both of you
🦮 Flat collar and lead
😊 A willingness to have a go

Perfection is not required. Showing up and having a crack is a solid start.

Questions? Not sure which activities are right for you? Reach out - we’re happy to help.

Come get some practice in, support your club mates and give yourself one more rehearsal before trial day. 🐕🎯

One weekend. Three clubs. Three locations. Plenty of GDOC dogs getting amongst it. 🐾👏

Our teams were out representing GDOC at the Capricorn Coast Kennel Club, Rockhampton Dog Obedience Club Inc. (RDOC) and Maryborough-Howard Dog Obedience Club over the weekend and they gave us plenty to cheer about🥳

⭐ Herbie: Best in Breed at Capricorn Coast Kennel Club AND two qualifying SprintDog runs at Rockhampton Dog Obedience Club. Apparently one sport wasn’t enough for the weekend!

💨 Flo: ran FAST in her SprintDog trial… unfortunately she decided the scent path to her human was the more interesting option than the actual track. Speed: excellent. Navigation: still under review. 😂

🚀 Rasta: two qualifying SprintDog runs. Zoomies with paperwork, clocking a personal best at 39.91km/hr 🤯

🚀 Junior: two qualifying SprintDog runs. Another very productive weekend of running in a straight-ish line, made harder by the extreme fog on Sunday morning!

🎯 Spock: 🥇Agility Excellent in Maryborough. Non-qualifying score thanks to one cheeky weave pole fault, because apparently perfection is overrated.

Big congratulations to all the dogs and their humans. ❤️

Different sports, different challenges, different outcomes - but every one of these teams got out there and had a go and that’s worth celebrating!

Awesome work GDOC crew! 👏🐾

🤔 Which of the four Archetypes is driving YOUR dog?

Do they lock onto something and can’t tear away?

Hang back or hesitate?

Go from zero to a hundred in the blink of an eye?

Or are they far more interested in everything else? 👀

After years of observing thousands of dogs, I’ve discovered four motivational drive systems that I call Archetypes.

And when you recognize these patterns, the things your dog does can start to make a whole lot more sense.
