What a fantastic night it was last night at the club with plenty of laughs and entertainment!

Thanks to everybody who attended and bought memorabilia and big thanks to Tommy for coming down and putting on a cracker show!

Last night I jumped on the Spirit of Tassie (ok, I flew but I thought that sounded better), and headed to the Nietta Cricket Club who play in the town of Forth which is about 15 minutes out of Davenport.

A couple of years back, this club was in its knees but thanks to the hard work and determination of its volunteers, it’s back in a big way and even winning the odd game here and there. I’ve never wanted to play cricket because I thought the games went for too long but one of their games yesterday only went for a couple of hours before they were all out so if you like cricket but dont want to play all day, this could be the club for you. Where do I sign?

It was great to meet the clubs many characters including Foles who although looking tough is insisting he be knocked out for his upcoming vasectomy because he doesn’t want to see anyone fiddling with his balls, Eli who looks like Chuck Norris if he took up skating, club Captain Slapper (don’t ask) who was pumped as this year he’s only dropped two catches, Brittany and Cosi who have two kids but have stressed that there’ll be no more, heart and soul of the club Joey who has perfected the fine art of cooking party pies, and of course Brooksy who was having the perfect day by getting 83 runs off 25 balls and winning the raffle (but we were all going to chip in and pay his girlfriend to knock him back when they got home to bring him down a peg or two).

A huge thanks to absolute legend Heath and everyone else at the club for their hospitality and for making it such a fun night. It was great to see everyone so proud of their club.

The A Reserve boys make it 2 in a row against Turners Beach yesterday!

Fielding first, the bowlers got to work with Barbs taking 3-27 off 9, Macca 3-19 off 9, Ricky Bobby 2-16 off 5 & Chino 2-7 off 1.2 overs & Dobes with a ripper catch in slips!

Turners Beach all out for 123.

It didn't go all our way early with the bat with the Beach having us in trouble at 4-32, but with Sam Wyllie & Eli Brooks out in the middle with 2 great knocks steering us home. Wyllie with 62 & Brooksy with 46 not out we got the job done by 5 wickets!

Unfortunately the B Grade boys couldn't back up their fantastic win from last week bowling Sassy out for 148. Special mentions to Zane Fletcher & Aaron John with Fletch taking 3-23 off 8 & Johnsy taking 3-17 off 6.

The run chase was simply too much this week with Sassy just too good. Nietta all out for 43.

The A Reserve boys welcomed West Ulverstone for our first encounter of the 2025/26 season.

The Captain won the toss and we went into bat with openers Sam Wyllie & Steve Barber

Sam fell cheaply but Barbs hung around to score a solid 34, coach Damien Macca Maxwell out for 24 on a questionable decision & Andrew Riley scoring a quick 20.

At the end of the innings we were all out for a defendable 134.

Time for the bowlers to get to work & that's exactly what Barbs did with the very first ball of the innings knocking the West Ulverstone opener over, only for it to be called a no ball and then dismissing him LBW with the very next ball!

Some nice tight bowling from father & son duo Blake & Andrew Riley with Blake taking 2-8 & Andrew 2-14, Jesse Costello chipping in with a caught and bowled & The Pres Heath Dolbel claiming 4-15.

West Ulverstone all out for 104 & a fantastic win for the Fernhookers!
