Round 1 from Euroa U12s: A brilliant start to the season
There was a nervous excitement as Euroa U12 took on the All Saints Hawks, with talk of “butterflies” in the air.
A mix of seasoned U12s, kids stepping up from the U10s and first-time players, the team has shown great spirit in pre-season training. With coaches Dave and manager Tractor in charge, Euroa was ready to go.
The game was closely fought for the first 15 minutes with no one giving way to score. Then after repeated efforts Will set up a great goal by passing to Ted and Euroa took the early lead.
Max was dominant as goalkeeper, an imposing force. When he did get a chance to kick, he made sure it landed clear of danger. Bradley, Harry and Dex made their presence felt, intercepting and forcing the ball Euroa’s way. Angus, new to the game this season, showed terrific courage, stepping up for a shot on goal that was expertly blocked by the Hawks’ defence – a great sign of things to come.
Then came a moment to remember. Nick launched a booming kick from what felt like halfway – a clean, powerful strike that sailed through and extended Euroa’s lead to two.
Teddy took his turn in goals and stepped up confidently. Around the ground the effort of Lilly and Dex never wavered. Owen and Jayden delivered a strong, reliable performance, and Fifi was equally outstanding – weaving through players with confidence and composure. Her persistence paid off, setting up a beautiful passage of play: a pass to Will, who backed it up smartly and fed Ted for another shot on goal, this time unlucky.
And then – the goal of the season (so far). Out of seemingly nowhere, Sam surged forward and unleashed a long-range strike that found its mark. The team celebration that followed matched the moment – pure joy.
The Hawks fought back and managed to secure a goal of their own, keeping the pressure on.
After a couple of unlucky attempts, the teamwork shone through once more. A seamless passage involving Sam, Harry, and Ted ended in another well-earned goal – a perfect example of teammates working and building confidence together.
Great job Euroa!
