Calm minds, clear focus, confident hearts💙

My vision is to give children and teenagers the tools to support their physical and mental health and wellbeing including a way to build self-awareness, self-regulation, and self-esteem as well as to strengthen body and mind through yoga and mindfulness.

When life gives you lemons you make lemonade…
We are currently travelling with my friends who are visiting from Germany. Between us we have 3 teens and a tween. Right at the start of our road trip, their hire camper broke down and we had to stay in a tiny town for 3 nights and had to drastically change our plans.
There were lots of things that could have brought our mood down, but we chose not to let this have a negative effect to our time together. Instead, we made the best of what we had.
And it’s a great way for young people to learn that things don’t always work out in a way we thought they would, and that it doesn’t mean that everything is going to be ruined.
This is not to say that we cannot have or need to suppress feelings of disappointment or frustration. But rather to recognise them, acknowledge them and have a choice on how to move forward.
How is your teen dealing when life is not going to plan?

When their mind is already busy, helping them slow down doesn’t need to become another thing they have to do.
To help your teen come out of the mind and into the body some simple movement & breath awarness can help very quickly. Try this short practice with your teen when their mind is racing. Move slowly, match your breath with your movement. How do you feel after?

It’s not always easy to “just sit down and notice what is going on inside. Often a little energy helps. Moving the body is a great way to release some of that restlessness and get from being just in the mind to being in the body. Then it becomes easier to slow down and bring awarness to what is happening in the body, how we are feeling and what we might need. A little shake can do wonders, try it by yourself or with your teen. Just for a minute or so shake it all out, then take some slow comfortable breath thorugh the nose and breath.
And if you like, let me know how you feel after. I would love to hear from you.

Back to school for me this week.
So exciting😀
I am invited back to teach yoga to the year nine sports science classes this term and I cannot wait. It’s always a great opportunity for teens to experience yoga. Classes for young people are a little different than adult classes. There is more interaction, and fun plus all other yoga goodies. Partner yoga and relaxation are always favourites.

Rest is not a nice to have, it's essential.
When we are rested we can show up fully in life, for ourselves, the people we love and everything else that is important to us.
These words by David Whyte are some of my favourite: "rested we are ready for the world, but not held hostage by it".
We had a wonderful session last Sunday and if you would like to join the free monthly classes, make sure you are on my mailing list for the upcoming dates. Link in bio;))

Just like us, teens have days where they just feel off, probably more often considering the developmental stages they are going through. And talking it out is not always the answer. Some grounding, gentle movement and breathing can help them to notice how they are feeling, what they might need and also helps shift the energy in their body to help them feel better.
