Winter Seasonal Flow Yoga.
As we move closer to the winter solstice, we gathered amongst stained glass windows, timber floors and colourful rugs for a practice designed to bring warmth into the body.
The rugs scattered across the floor have come home with me over the years from places including East Timor and Turkey. This morning they created a little extra warmth and comfort between our bodies and the cool wooden floor.
Our focus was on building heat from within.
Rather than moving quickly or pushing hard, we used breath-led movement and gentle ujjayi pranayama and Surya bhedana (Sun piercing breath) to create warmth, encourage circulation and ease some of the stagnation that can settle into the body during winter.
The practice was slow, steady and mindful because sometimes what we need isn’t more intensity, but movement that honours the season we’re in while helping us feel warm, grounded and alive.
Thank you to everyone who joined me for this winter practice.
