RANGERS SHOW HEART ON THE ROAD IN BARRABA BATTLE
The Dorrigo Rangers Women made the long trek across the divide to Barraba this weekend, taking the field in warm, sunny conditions and ready for a tough contest. Barraba came out firing, using their size and momentum early to jump to a 15–0 lead by the end of the first quarter.
Dorrigo settled into their rhythm in the second quarter and produced their best passage of the match. Crisp passing through the hands opened space on the edge, allowing Ryleigh to slice through for a brilliant try. Madi D calmly added the extras. The Rangers outscored Barraba in the quarter, showing real composure and teamwork. At halftime, the score sat at 20–7, and Dorrigo were very much in the fight.
The third quarter was an even, physical contest. Sustained pressure on the Barraba line eventually cracked the defence, with Sidney powering over to score. The Rangers’ energy and intent were clear, and they went into the final break trailing 27–12.
Fatigue and the long road trip caught up with Dorrigo in the final term. Barraba found another gear and pulled away late, running in several tries to close out the match 44–12.
Despite the scoreline, there were plenty of positives for the Rangers. Rachel, in her first-ever game, was outstanding — fearless in contact and relentless in effort. The mother–daughter duo of Lacey and Georgina were superb, working hard in both attack and defence and lifting the team with their work rate. Georgina also picked up the players player, thank you to Makoko hair for the voucher for players player. The team’s second‑quarter surge and third‑quarter resilience showed exactly what this group is capable of.
Next week both the men and women return home to Dorrigo for a big day against the Tamworth Magpies. Many thanks to Rangers Sponsors:
