The Tournament Edition of the Wick Trick by the Unknown Blocker.

The Dimboola Bowls Tournament.
Yes a historic day for the Dimboola Bowls Club, hosting a triples tournament for the first time for over 20 years and making a huge success of the day. As always the weather is very high on the wish list for this time of the year and as it turned out, it could not have been better. The Blocker detected a few sweaty brows mid afternoon which is evidence of the steady sunlight making its way on to the green. The turnout for the event meant that all rinks on both greens were full and with teams very well supported locally but also from Ballarat, Bordertown, Koroit etc. An interesting feature was no Dimboola teams were required to fill in which highlights the work done by Josh Cook, Rob Pyers and Daniel Danisch in organising the day. Not forgetting the amazing job of the crew that put the midday meal on and supplied by Jake Miller (Master Baker) – a mighty challenge to feed 90 plus people, let alone fit them into the club rooms. The day was won by the three from Penshurst.
Incidents and Accidents.
It was an unfortunate outcome for the Edenhope three led by Hugh Caldow – missing out on a game and having no way to get back to Goroke to get their car. It was a practical Hughie that mentioned that he will be able to have some longnecks at the footy now after Bobby Clark offered a ride to Goroke. Hughie copped the double whammy after news filtered through that he ended up playing footy in the twos. No many around have a footy/bowls career to keep them busy.
There are some things that are a constant and when they deviate it can take a while to comprehend. That’s how it was last Saturday when Kanivas Darren Maddern lined up to play. There is something out of the norm there- Oh, he is wearing bowls shoes, not thongs. The jury is out on whether it affected his bowls.
As what happens these days at many tournaments, there was music over the speaker system, sort of playing in the background. The Blocker can report that the solid pub rock playlist was all Australian and very enjoyable to listen to.
It was a tight decision on the best social bowls top that was worn on Saturday but in the end, you can’t go past the Yabby top from Balmoral. Three Yabbies with bowls in their claws which is a tricky thing to do, don’t worry about those claws getting caught up in fabric of the green, just worry about the distraction factor for opposition bowlers thinking about a good feed of Yabbies.
A quick shout out to our bowlers that have advanced so far in the state competition. Judith Albrecht getting to the last four in the singles and the Fours team of Daniel Danisch, Darryl Argall, Don Connor and Peter O’Loughlin who got into the final of the state fours.
