The Wick Trick by the Unknown Blocker.
“ Oh where, oh, where, can the kitty be? The last drive took it away from me, it’s gone to the ditch, so I got to be good, so I can get the shot and Skip is happy with me.” Thanks to Pearl Jam and “Last Kiss” and describing the action at Dimboola Bowls club last weekend.
Division 1 Weekend results: Dimboola 87 to Nhill 65.
Daniel Danisch rink: Dim 27 to Nhill 15.
Peter O’Loughlin rink: Dim 40 to Nhill 28.
Allan Krahe rink: Dim 20 to Nhill 22.
It was a grinding effort form the Ones against Nhill last Saturday, but there was nothing boring about the way the game was played. Amazing shots from both sides throughout the afternoon to a point of exhaustion in the 35 degree heat. It was an elated Peter O’Loughlin that heaped praise on his team after a number of multiple scores on some of the ends. Judith Albrecht was giving a clinic as lead and had the unusually large crowd plenty to cheer and clap about. The big news is that the Ones have taken second spot on the ladder and still remain very close to top spot.
Division 2 Weekend results: Dimboola 69 to Horsham Golf 64.
Merv Roberts rink: Dim 22 to HG 21.
Ron Gaulke rink: Dim 27 to HG 22.
Geoff Gazelle rink: Dim 20 to HG 21.
What a result for the Dimmy Twos, knocking over an unbeaten Horsham Golf side who are the benchmark personified by a very competitive Trevor Ough who applied pressure all game and Dimboola maintaining a faint whiff of finals action when the
2 / 3
season resumes after the Christmas break. Each rink was tight and it was Ron Gaulkes rink that allowed a slight advantage as the other two rinks went into their last ends. Highlights of the day include some outstanding Lead bowling by Ian Barry, some pressure bowls from Mary Argall and some delicate shot bowls from the “In form” Merv Roberts.
Division 1 Midweek results: Dimboola 92 to Horsham City 44.
Lorraine Ross rink: Dim 28 to HC 16.
Peter O’Loughlin rink: Dim 32 to HC 17.
Allan Krahe rink: Dim 32 to HC 11.
Division 2 Midweek results: Dimboola 45 to Horsham City 47.
Trev McBain rink: Dim 8 to HC 38.
Ron Gaulke rink: Dim 37 to HC 9.
Incidents and Accidents.
The latest in the must have clothing item, “the Bothy T-Shirt” was out in full swing for the Nhill boys after the match with Fox Jones saying he” would have one of those little beauties”. Darryl was quite comfortable with all the hype and said “I know its’s not the greatest T-shirt in history, but it’s a tribute and I’m cool with that.
An interesting conversation in the post practice beverage rehydration process with Daniel Danisch mentioning about his sock tan due to playing a few rounds of golf. Then the sock tan/thong tan combo was mentioned which led to one of the unanswered questions of the century. Shirley Thomas said where she originally comes from in England, they are called flip flops, and a thong is something completely different - you only wear
3 / 3
one. The Blocker chimed in and asked “If they only wear one thong over there, don’t they get bindii in the other foot?.
The Boston bun factor and the Smoko wars were alive and well last Saturday with a half time hit of the BB for the Merv Roberts rink that pushed them thru the pain barrier to a one shot win. The disaster factor was as close as the rink score when it was discovered the bun had been exposed to the searing heat before consumption but luckily the icing hadn’t melted. Old Phantom saying “Protect the Boston and then polish the bowls.”
State Fours Competition:
This upcoming Sunday, Dimboola will host the final of the State Fours competition which has Dimboola represented by Daniel Danisch, Peter O’Loughlin, Don Connors and Darryl Argall. Let’s get down there at 9:30 to support our Dimmy team and build the enthusiasm for a red hot tilt at further success next year. Here’s four players that are playing Division One and going into next year with three games to go before finals, then a crack at the big one. A very learned member of the club has pointed out that Dimboola has a 10 year successful hit history and this season fits into that that framework. 1995, 2005, 2015. Go Dimmy!
“It’s not time to make a drive, Just relax, take the green, You’re still young, take your time, find the line, settle down, if you want you can upshot, Look at me, I’ve played a lot and I’m happy” Thanks to Cat Stevens and his “Father and Son” or should it be Grandson

The Wick Trick by the Unknown Blocker.
“Are you ready, Do the bus stop, four to the front, then four to the back, form a line to the front, form a line to the back and do the bus stop” Thanks to the Fatback Band and they maybe describe what was going on with the trip back due to a lack of rest stops. What happens after passing Locheil, stays at Locheil. “Old footy club saying”.
Division 1 Weekend results: Dimboola 87 to Kaniva 52.
Daniel Danisch rink: Dim 28 to Kaniva 21.
Peter O’Loughlin rink: Dim 31 to Kaniva 14.
Allan Krahe rink: Dim 28 to Kaniva 17.
Division 1 are travelling along very well and these days and it’s by bus. The trip to Kaniva last weekend was successful and firms up third with only six points separating the top three teams. Daniel Danisch got the better of experienced skipper Jeff Meyer and the Peter O’Loughlin and Allan Krahe rinks won by comfortable margins once again.
Division 2 Weekend results: Dimboola 72 to Natimuk 58.
Merv Roberts rink: 20 to Nat 19.
James McRae rink: 28 to 16.
Geoff Gazelle rink: 24 to 23.
It was a nail-biting finish to the days action at Natimuk last weekend with the Merv Roberts rink and Geoff Gazelle rink getting home by one shot each. James McRae had an eye on all the proceedings by making sure he had a comfortable lead with all his rink bowling well. The highlight of the day was the last bowl Merv Roberts delivered with scores tied. It was a long end with plenty of
2 / 3
traffic blocking the jack. The bowl was like a well timed Ricky Ponting push through third man, curled around and ended up sitting perfectly behind the Kitty. 2 shots resulted and a 1 shot win. The team is sitting fifth at the moment and have a slim chance of playing finals bowls.
Division 1 Midweek results: Dimboola 78 to Coughlin Park 67.
Lorraine Ross rink: Dim 32 to CP 19.
Peter O’Loughlin rink: Dim 16 to CP 27.
Allan Krahe rink: Dim 30 to 21.
Another top performance from the Midweek Ones and are now sitting well on top of the ladder by a commanding 40 points.
Division 2 Midweek results: Dimboola 69 to Coughlin Park 28.
Ron Gaulke rink: Dim 38 to CP 13.
Bobby Clark rink: Dim 31 to CP 15.
A dominant display of bowls from the Twos and are now sitting fourth on the ladder, 7 points ahead of Goroke/Edenhope.
Incidents and Accidents.
The cold and windy conditions continue with last Saturday catching a few bowlers off guard, especially at Natimuk with a squall barrelling in from the Mount. The temperature dropped a few degrees for about seven ends and this is supposed to be December.
It was noted during the days play at Natimuk that Natimuk had a few gunslingers in their team line-up. They were deadly and shooting from the hip, but putting pressure on the whole game. It reminded one player of a game of Bocce. Interesting place to play
3 / 3
in Natimuk and word has it that they are struggling for members. The Blocker suggests that they might need to do a lap of the Mt Arapiles campground and bolster their numbers with rockclimbers like the Natimuk footy club used to do.
When in doubt, ask Darryl Argall! “What’s that shiny thing that gets passed around on your rink now and then?” The Blocker suspects some type of measuring device but NO. “It’s what you might call the elixir of life for all bowlers. Enough said.” Hmm, might have to get some of that.

State Fours action:
Last Sunday had Mens and Womens teams competing in the State Fours and Dimboola had a Mens team in that consisted of Daniel Danisch, Peter O’Loughlin, Don Connor and Darryl Argall. At the end of the day the Dimboola boys topped their section and will play for the title later this month. Lets get a contingent of Dimmy supporters down to support a win for the boys.
The Bobby Richards sponsored state of play for this weekend is that both Divisions are at home with the Ones playing Nhill and the Twos playing Horsham Golf.
“All the bowls are packed, I’m ready to roll, I stand here on the rink, I don’t have much time to think, Cause I’m leaving on a Jet plane, Don’t know how we’ll go in the game.” Thanks to John Denver and the classic Leaving on a Jet plane. By the way, that’s how Division 2 weekend got to their match last Saturday – the bill will be in the mail!

The Wick Trick by the Unknown Blocker.

“Well, get out on my bowls green, And rattle those bowls and cans’ Yeah, now roll in my rink, cause I’m a drivin man, I will let you shake, rattle and bowl, Cmon Shake, rattle and bowl.” Thanks to Bill Haley and the Comets in a song requested from James McRae who played a fill-in role in Div 1 last Saturday.

Division 1 Weekend results: Dimboola 76 to Horsham Golf 72.

Josh Cook rink: Dim 19 to HG 26.

Peter O’Loughlin rink: Dim 27 to HG 19.

Allan Krahe rink: Dim 30 to HG 27.

Dimboola Div 1 will turn into a powerhouse in the WBA. In the last three years they have knocked on the door of finals and currently sit at third on the ladder. With only 5 rounds to go, they are looking to lock down 3rd position. We’ve changed our team a bit (gave Daniel Danisch a weekend away), got a couple of young blokes back and seems to be going really smoothly. What a great result for the ones against a class act that is Horsham Golf. Peter O’Loughlin’s rink played for a fine win and scored a vital 5 on their last end that led to an overall win of 4 shots.

Division 2 Weekend results: Dimboola 56 to Nhill 98.

Merv Roberts rink: 23 to Nhill 30.

Don Haines rink: 19 to Nhill 29.

Ron Gaulke rink: 14 to Nhill 39.

It was another challenging day for Div 2 last Saturday with the usual green quirks exacerbated by a blustery wind angling across the rinks. A rite of passage for Don Haines in his role as Skipper for the week, but he met the challenge and showed he will keep improving. Merv Roberts again showed up by doing some clutch bowls at crucial times to keep his rink in the competition. His highlight was a drive that turned 5 down into 1 up.

Division 1 Midweek results: Dimboola 72 to Sunnyside 56.

Lorraine Ross rink: Dim 30 to Sun 13.

Peter O’Loughlin rink: Dim 19 to Sun 25.

Allan Krahe rink: Dim 23 to Sun 18.

Division 2 Midweek results: Dimboola 42 to Goroke/Edenhope 45.

Trev McBain rink: Dim 13 to G/E 31.

Ron Gaulke rink: Dim 29 to G/E 14.

Incidents and Accidents.

It’s the Eightieth anniversary of ABC radio’s Country Hour and in a surprise phone call to their switchboard, Ian McRae, our 103 year old bowler, made mention of tuning in on the wireless for the first edition after getting back from the second world war. Word has it that Ian has such a good voice for radio he is about to embark on a new career and become the new “Golden Tonsils”. Now the Blocker understands why Glenn McGrath got turfed from his gig of doing the cricket!

It was a torrid day at Nhill where Dim Div 2 played on a green that was almost straight on one side to the point of “He who must not be named” saying it’s almost like playing ten pin bowling and going for a spare. The Blocker thinks that Pam Cramer must be a good ten pinner, the way she bowled.

It was a bit of a loud shirt evening after the bowls on Saturday night at the annual bowls club Chinese food night. The clubs favourite mystery man turned up in a Muppets theme Hawaiian shirt that had the desired effect of rattling the barman, so the first drink was free. But it didn’t end there, and with the rare double loud shirt manoeuvre, a Bothy t-shirt appeared underneath. The shirt is becoming the “must have” in the club and will it appear at the Ashes in the Boxing Day test? Big thanks to Darryl Argall for organising the night and doing everything apart from tidying the kitchen. The Blocker, a known 70’s rock tragic, pointed out the double loud shirt is like having 11 on your stereo dial.

A visit to Nhill Bowls club is not complete unless greetings are made to some iconic Wimmera footballers in the Nhill Bowls line-up. Col Alexander is always up and about, Ronnie Beer is becoming the go-to barman and the man that knows everybody, Jeff Fritsch who is always on the ball, even to the point of making sure the kitchen was clean and tidy.

The Bobby Richards sponsored coming weekend bowls report is both teams away next Saturday. Div 1 playing Kaniva and Div 2 playing Natimuk.

“Well dat’s 6 foot, 7 foot, 20 foot LONG, Heyo Dayiayo, Bowls day come and we want to bowl long, And den half time come and we want to go home.” Thanks to Harry Belefonte and the Banana Boat song, describing a trip to Nhill when there is a gusting wind.

The Wick Trick by the Unknown Blocker.
“Blinded by the light, dressed up like a sunrise, another bowler – what a sight, Yeah Blinded by the light.” Thanks to Manfred Mann for an apt tune to describe Sunnysides new playing uniform. The Blocker was glad that the 60+ sunscreen had been applied before that one was spotted. “Here comes the sun, doo doo doo too, here comes the sun and I say, it’s allright” thanks George”
Division 1 Weekend results: Dimboola 76 to Sunnyside 58.
Daniel Danisch rink: 31 to Sun 12.
Peter O’Loughlin rink: 25 to Sun 20.
Allan Krahe rink: 20 to 26.
Another win for the Div 1 and holding on to a handy third place on the ladder. The Danisch rink were playing calculated and precise bowls and the renowned opposing skipper in John Ackland had no answers. The side overall were able to recover from a glare induced slow start and ground out a win that will benefit them in the rest of the season.
Division 2 results: Dimboola 41 to Sunnyside 100.
Merv Roberts rink: 7 to Sun 40.
James McRae rink: 17 to Sun 33.
Geoff Gazelle rink: 17 to Sun 27.
It was certainly a battle for Div 2, not just against the flies but also the Sunnyside stick men. A conservative count had 8 out of the twelve in the side sporting sticks and were they persistent- the Blocker isn’t talking about the flies. It was a mirror sunglasses Neil Magor that took on a Captain Killgore persona and said “ I love the smell of Grippo in the Morning, it’s the smell of victory”.

Not all lost for the two’s sitting in fifth, but some tough games to come.
Division 1 Midweek results: Dimboola 86 to Nhill 64.
Peter O’Loughlin rink: 30 to Nhill 21.
Lorraine Ross rink: 36 to Nhill 21.
Allan Krahe rink: 20 to Nhill 22.
Division 2 Midweek results: Dimboola 50 to Serviceton 49.
Ron Gaulke rink: 29 to Serv 20.
Bobby Clark rink: 21 to Serv 29.
Incidents and Accidents.
What is the definition of a cult figure? After many studies, it is simply that if people wear your picture on a T-shirt, then you qualify. Stand up Darryl Both! It took a good 15 minutes to notice a number of bowls members wearing a DB T-shirt at Friday night training but Darryl though it was a classic. The Blocker has heard K-Mart are interested in doing a line of Bothie clothing in the sports section.
The Blocker got wind of a disturbance in the force with an apparent move to poach number one draft pick from 2022, James McRae by the Suns of Anarchy. The story goes that there is a new shirt with name already made up for next season. It took Dimboolas tallest barmaid to throw the gauntlet down before they took off. “We’ll be back” was the comment from Rex Bergen as he rode off on his Harley.
The after match get together, fuelled by another Darryl Argall barbie was the perfect setting to witness one of crickets most memorable sporting performances with Travis Head showing a

masterclass in demolishing an English bowling attack. The disbelief in how the ball was being hit was almost matched by Rooboy realising he was triple parked with beers and had to get a move on – if only his sipping rate matched Heads run rate.
Looks like Boston Buns have truly become the latest superfood for athletes. It was an ungloved Sunnysider Gavin Watson that was feasting on a half time pick me up – lot of calories in that bun that equalled a lot of running up and down the rink.
State Pairs Action:
Last Sunday, the Dimboola Bowls club hosted the climax of the Wimmera section of the State Pairs. Four teams that had Dimboola dominating with 3 entries and one from Horsham Golf. The morning action had the long awaited clash of the titans with Allan Krahe/Wayne Albrecht against Peter O’Loughlin/Darryl Both, and finishing with a last end thriller to Pete and Darryl. The other Game had Rob Pyers/Pete Harradine ( The Cisco Kid and Poncho) against the Be-Bop boys Brad Robinson/Hayden Tucker from Horsham Golf. The game was drawn at 15 ends and saw the HG team take out the extra end. The final Pete/Darryl v Brad/Tuck. Scores were 12 all going into the last end and some canny bowling by the Dimmy boys had them holding 3 or 4 with one bowl to come. A drive by Brad, some jingle jangle and the kitty stayed near a Dim bowl and a 1 shot win for Peter O’Loughlin and Darryl Both. Three games and all down to the 15th or 16th end.

The Bobby Richards sponsored upcoming weekend bowls action will see Division 1 playing Horsham Golf at Dim and Division2 will be at Nhill for some fast greens and train spotting.
“An upshot and a ripping wick shot, A scoring thrill and ripped up scorecards, A starving Bothie and some ripper bowling, The screech of Skips and cameras clicking, I say That’s entertainment, That’s entertainment, Yeaaaah.” Thanks to Paul Weller and The Jam for a song to reflect the action of the State pairs from last weekend.

The Wick Trick by the Unknown Blocker.

“And another thing, I’ve been wondering lately – Oh, Kitty, let me know where you’ve been? Now the rink is set, where’s my grippo at, baby? Now it’s down to what’s my green? What’s my green, tell me what’s my green?” Thanks to the Hoodoo Gurus with “What’s my scene”

Division 1 Weekend results: Dimboola 92 to Goroke/Edenhope 55

Daniel Danisch rink: 33 to G/E 22.

Peter O’Loughlin rink: 34 to G/E 16.

Allan Krahe rink: 25 to 17.

Div 1 had to consolidate on their past couple of wins with a victory against a Goroke/Edenhope outfit that can be described as giant killers on occasion. In the end, all three rinks had a win with good and consistent bowls and contribution from all bowlers in the side. They sit in third position now and eyeing off a place in the top 2.

Division 2 Weekend results: Dimboola 73 to Horsham City 71.

Merv Roberts rink: 19 to HC 29.

James McRae rink: 23 to HC 21.

Geoff Gazelle rink: 31 to 21.

A narrow and exciting finish to the match, coming down to the last end of the Merv Roberts rink where a close 1 shot score sealed the side victory. A good performance by the Geoff Gazelle rink set the match win up and James McRae did the amazing by turning an end into a win with an upshot that turned the game.

Division 1 Midweek: Dimboola 72 to Kaniva 51.

Lorraine Ross rink: 24 to Kan 18.

Peter O’Loughlin rink: 29 to Kan 15.

Allan Krahe rink: 19 to Kan 18.

Division 2 Midweek: Dimboola 55 to Coughlin Park Three 28.

Trev McBain rink: 20 to CP 16.

Ron Gaulke rink: 35 to 12.

Incidents and Accidents.

It was a defining moment in the Smoko wars with the after match spread at the Dimboola bowls club on offer to the team from Goroke/Edenhope who are the benchmark. Impressive display and then the Pavlova came out – The G/E were shellshocked and were heard to say that they had concerns about the fairy bread having 100’s and thousands and not sprinkles. Then there was mention of the Dimboola bartender being too tall at 5 foot even. Dimmy back in the game with results and the after game spread.

Two interesting moments from two frustrated bowlers. The first was a comment “Gees I’m over bowls, I’m going a Canadian club!” and then “Oh just take me out the back like the Hound of the Baskervilles and chase me through the Moors”. The Blocker thinks that it could have something to do with the pristine conditions and sunlight – where was the cold and wind?

Shout out to Shirley Thomas and the shock injury sustained during a training of Aussie rules where she has sustained a debilitating knee injury. Lets hope the upcoming medical treatment is successful and she is back bowling soon.

The weekly Bob Richards sponsored upcoming fixture report is Dimboola Division 1 and 2 will be playing Sunnyside at home. Then on Sunday at the Dimboola bowls club, the next round of the State pairs will be played, with 3 out of the four teams from Dimboola.

“Let there be grippo, and there was grippo, Let there be greens and there were greens, Let there be upshots and there were up shots, OOH let there be bowls, yeah let there be bowls. Thanks to ACDC and “Let there be rock” and the inspiration of Angus Young and his unique Bindi – i shuffle that is the inspiration for so many bowlers – in his seventies and still doing a 20 minute guitar solo.

“BOWL ON”

The Wick Trick by the Unknown Blocker.

“ And when I look out the window, many sights to see, so many different bowlers, that it’s strange, so strange – You got to pick up every wick, you got to pick up every trick Mm-Hmm, must be the season of the ditch, must be the season of the twitch – must be the season of the win.” Thanks to Donavon for an inspiring outlook on the season for the Dimboola bowls club.

Division 1 Weekend results: Dimboola 87 to Coughlin Park 54.

Daniel Danisch rink: 26 to CP 23.

Peter O’Loughlin rink: 31 to CP 20.

Allan Krahe rink: 30 to CP 11.

What a turn around for the 1’s, knocking over a team that overcame Nhill the week before. Yes, the Sainters got swept and the highlight being the Krahe rink with a 19 shot win. The team looks settled and what a difference having the 2 young guns in Josh Cook and Shannon Williams oozing confidence and a little bit of friendly aggression. The Blocker thinks that might be a bit of an oxy-moronic statement or should it be a bit of agro friendliness. Question of the week – Does it look like Div 1 is enjoying the thrill of the game?

Division 2 Weekend results: Dimboola 75 to Natimuk 61.

Merv Roberts rink: 22 to Nat 20.

James McRae rink: 30 to Nat 19.

Geoff Gazelle rink: 23 to Nat 22.

The Div 2 win topped the day off for the club with a hard fought win over the Mountain people. Geoff Gazelle hung on for a one point win that would have got the huge crowd going and giving the cheer squad panic attacks. James McRae had a handy 11 win that steadied the ship for the side overall – The Blocker doesn’t think that James would be having any excitement issues – the Iceman strikes.

Division 1 Midweek results: Dimboola 55 to Horsham City 83.

Lorraine Ross rink: 22 to HC 16.

Peter O’Loughlin rink: 17 to HC 35.

Geoff Gazelle rink: 16 to HC 32.

Division 2 Midweek results: Dimboola 42 to Horsham Golf 48.

Ron Gaulke rink: 30 to HG 17.

Bobby Clark rink: 12 to HG 31.

Incidents and Accidents.

The Smoko wars will be on in earnest this weekend when Dimboola plays Edenhope/Goroke in Div 1 and Div 2 plays their home game against Horsham City. The word has been sent out that afternoon tea will be supplied and who better to impress than the current benchmark of savoury and sweet delights, the Edenhope/Goroke team. There has been talk of a secret weapon in the selection of goodies that will be offered by the Dimboola club. Your correspondent will be taking an intense interest in the proceedings. Let’s just say there won’t be any reliance on the superfood of Boston Bun and its many variations.

The Division 1 side looks like they are sitting in third spot on the ladder now – what an improvement from a couple of weeks ago. Did Darryl Argall ring the voice of Wimmera bowls again? The Blocker has made a career in reporting the ups and downs of sport from footy to Rugby league, curling, darts, cycling and chutney making, so understanding what it takes to succeed and taking a famous Yabby Kennedy quote to inspire his Hawthorn team “You’ve got good players and you have ok players, but when it comes down to it, crackers and cheese just don’t cut the mustard, now get out there and win the smoko war” Famous words and hopefully the start of something big.

This weeks Bobby Richards sponsored games for the weekend will have Div 1 playing Edenhope/Goroke and Div 2 playing Horsham City and both games played at home.

“So hard finding inspiration, I knew you’d find me trying, Tell those bowlers with upshots on their minds, That their shots don’t make me laugh, They only make me feel like drawing – In an unguarded moment- an unguarded moment” Thanks to the Church and the sharp witted lyrics from Stephen Kilbey. Go Roos.

The Wick Trick by the Unknown Blocker.
“Another one bites the dust, time to get on the bus and celebrate with us” Thanks to Queen and well done Div 1.
Weekend Division 1results: Dimboola 78 to Horsham City 68.
Daniel Danisch rink: Dim 30 to HC 24.
Allan Krahe rink: Dim 22 to HC 21.
Peter O’Loughlin rink: Dim 27 to HC 23.
What a fantastic result for the “Ones”, beating Horsham City (the old enemy) on their home turf. The Blocker rushing back from the big NRL Ashes series win, to a clubrooms that was in celebration mode, reliving the day and lifting hopes for the rest of the season. The highlight of the night was a “please explain” phone call to the “Golden Tonsils of Wimmera bowls” Mal Coutts who had predicted a loss for the “Roos Rollers”. A very Caroline “Kero” Wilson comment to make but Darryl Argall was able to clear a few things up.
Weekend Division 2 results: Dimboola 59 to Coughlin Park 67.
Merv Roberts rink: Di 23 to CP 19.
James McRae rink: Dim 17 to CP 27.
Geoff Gazelle rink: Dim 19 to CP 21.
A narrow loss to the Two’s last Saturday away again for the fifth week in a row. Conditions at Coughlin Park were heavy for the first few ends but as the day progressed the greens quickened up and so did the Dimboola shots. Merv Roberts rink had all players contribute to grind out a 4 shot win with the match up of Mary Argall and Wendy Sleep the one to watch – an amazing exhibition of lead bowling that really put the pressure on at the start of each end.
Midweek Division 1 results: Dimboola away to Coughlin Park
Lorraine Ross rink: Dim 27 to CP 20.
Peter O’Loughlin rink: Dim 30 to CP 24.
Allan Krahe rink: Dim 47 to CP 12.
An emphatic win by the green and gold, cracking the ton and sitting clear on top of the ladder. The winning feeling is going strong and it looks like another outstanding season for the Midweek Div 1. The Allan Krahe rink having a resounding 35 shot win as part of a three rink domination.
Midweek Division 2 results: Dimboola 55 to Sunnyside 51.
Bobby Clark rink: Dim 36 to Sun 51.
Ron Gaulke rink: Dim 19 to Sun 30.
An entertaining game and just missing some interesting weather in the afternoon so the Melbourne Cup could be enjoyed in the afternoon.
Dimboola Bowls club Championship action.
Last Sunday the club held the Championship Knockout with the action starting in the morning for both Men’s and Women’s teams. Some of the early action was highlighted by a clash of the titans with Peter O’Loughlin and Darryl Both matched up. The Blocker witnessed some very competitive bowling in the afternoon where the sun had a bit of a kick and the flies challenged the players concentration. The final had Greg Cook after he was able to get past Wayne Albrecht in a very competitive game. The other finalist was Don Connors who was able to get past Darryl Both with
consistent bowls and displaying a very organised style of play. Conditions cooled down for the final which had Greg Cook 25 to Don Connors 8.
In the Ladies part of the event, it was a match between two in Caroline Crowhurst, the Bushranger who on her day can pin the bowl onto the Kitty like clockwork and Lorraine Ross, the experienced skipper and current champion. It was a win to Lorraine 25 shots to 5.
Well Done to Cooky and Lorraine for their Club Champion wins.

Incidents and Accidents.
It was a thirsty Blocker at Coughlin Park Sporting Complex to witness the action of bowls on every rink, tennis games on the left side and cricket on the right. So, a refreshing drink of cool water was in order and as this was being consumed Allan “Aldo” Lleyonjelm “the cult figure of Coughlin Park” asked “Does that water taste good?” After an affirmative, he said “Yep and coz that fountain has my name on it, you can put 2 bucks in the bucket”. Sure enough, there it was – Donated by Aldo Lleyenjelm 2017. Is there any truth in the rumour that he always plays on that rink to make sure the coin goes in the bucket.
Dimboola Division 2 player Alex Orcsik has a unique style of celebration when he gets his bowl close to the kitty. It’s a shuffle combined with a pulp fiction type arm movement. Maybe a talent that could have gone somewhere if Elvis Presley had met him before he ran into Forrest Gump.
It was a near thing for the jubilant Div one players who were all keen to go en-mass to a secret sauna and secret pool in a secret
location. The information provided was that there was 50 degrees plus in the sauna and a water cooled slide into the pool- very tempting- will this become the reward for wins in the future.
The Bobby Richards sponsored upcoming games report is Div 1 playing at home against Coughlin Park and Div 2 playing at home against Natimuk.
“ We all need to bowl and bowl, we can’t all be in control, no wick tricks on the bowls green, Hey Cooky, leave the jack alone. All in all, it’s just another brick in the wall” A tribute to Greg Cook from Pink Floyd on a club championship display that was on point the whole final.

The unknown blocker is back again this week with another amazing article and some more inside scoops …
Dimmy bowls club are pondering … has the blocker been hanging out with the wiggles and their aray of fruit salad or the cockroaches with another Saturday night !!!!!

The Wick Trick by the Unknown Blocker.
“Fruit Salad -Yummy Yummy, Boston Bunsies- Yummy Yummy, and lots of Cos Lettuce – Yummy Yummy” Thanks to the Wiggles and post game munchies at Horsham Golf Bowls club.
Division 1 Weekend results: Dimboola 40 to Horsham Golf 83.
Daniel Danisch rink: Dim 14 to HG 23.
Allan Krahe rink: Dim 8 to HG 39.
Darryl Both rink: 18 to HG 21.
It is a challenge playing away to Horsham Golf especially when the Blue Wrens are one of the form teams. The clash between Daniel Danisch and Ash Batchelor was one for the ages, with tight heads, pressure bowls and good banter. Overall result was disappointing for Ones as it will be a hard ask for a successful season which means a final berth. The Blocker is looking forward to some exciting results, some light-hearted banter and some enjoyment in the game.
Division 2 Weekend results: Dimboola 62 to Horsham Golf 74.
Merv Roberts rink: 18 to HG 36.
Don Connors rink: 27 to HG 16.
Geoff Gazelle rink:17 to HG 22.
It wasn’t all doom and gloom, and the threat of horrible weather didn’t deter Div 2, but a loss is a loss with going down by 12 points. Don Connors rink looked in control for most of the game while Merv Roberts rink took a while to get going and played catch up for the rest of the day. Geoff Gazelle had an interesting tussle, but only narrowly went down. The Twos will need to regroup for another challenge against Coughlin Park this weekend.

Division 1 Midweek results: Dimboola 80 to Sunnyside 51.
Lorraine Ross rink: 23 to Sun 15.
Peter O’Loughlin rink: 22 to Sun 18.
Allan Krahe rink: 35 to Sun 18.
The Div 1 Midweek team are heading for another big season and are sitting top of the ladder. A big margin for Allan Krahe’s rink and shows the overall side will be hard to beat. They will play Coughlin Park away on the 3rd of November.
Division 2 Midweek results: Dimboola 42 to Horsham City 47.
Trev McBain rink: 18 to HC 22.
Ron Gaulke rink: 24 to HC 25.
A close match that should give the Dimboola team some confidence going through to the next game. The Ron Gaulke rink had a close one point finish that would have been great to watch which will be Sunnyside at Dim on the 4th of November.

Incidents and Accidents:
The latest in the Smoko Wars is the “after game snacks” at Horsham Golf. Quite impressive with some of the old go-toos but the clincher, which is what makes this little presentation fight above its weight, is the curried egg sandwiches. There they are just sitting off to the side waiting for a taker while all the Golf boys make out that they aren’t paying attention and the Blocker has one and then can’t stop- no bowls tomorrow.
The phenomenon known as finger buns as a sport enhancing super food have been superseded by “the all time classic” known
3 / 4
as the boston bun. Two bowlers in Division 2 were sprung hooking into little plastic bags of buttered bun slices. Where did the bun come from and is it truly better than a finger bun. One to ponder for the Dimboola Café window seat boys.
There is a particular Div 2 third that is learning the ropes of playing at three and Rick Danisch has helped guide their progress and as part of the process, a stick of chalk was presented so that touchers can be marked. With what is going on for a third, chalk is obviously the last thing to be considered. Good coaching Rick.
With the Melbourne cup coming up next week, the punting on the horsies is getting intense. Darryl Both is a constant source of interesting tips for some of his close friends in the bowls club, but are his tips being taken seriously?– if they were, they would all be riding two stroke electric bikes. Maybe Billy Eldridge does.
State Pairs:
Dimboola bowls club had the honour of hosting the State Pairs last Sunday. At 9:00 both bowling surfaces were under water and things looked grim with the constant rain. But it was Oracle Both that sensed a break in the weather and an hour and a half later, bowlers were getting ready to play on the clubs new rink. The big news is that the womens team of Lorraine Ross and Judith Albrecht won the day and 3 mens teams that entered have got through to the next round. Peter O’Loughlin and Darryl Both, Allan Krahe and Wayne Albrecht, Rob Pyers and Peter Harradine were the teams – There’s going to be some team-mates in for some exciting action.
The Bob Richards sponsored round 5 Wimmera bowls match up for this weekend sees Dimboola Division 1 and 2 travel to Horsham to play Coughlin Park .
