As you may know, when I’m not teaching yoga, I teach at The Daylesford Dharma School. I teach Chinese across the school as well as co-teach the Grade 3,4,5,6 or The Friends and Guides Class. I’m writing to let you know that I’ve been participating in Meditate in May with my students this year.

We have been meditating every day, in May, in various ways to raise money for a few projects that we have big visions for! These include: the Dharma Farm, Dharmaville (cubbies project), and the Five Precepts walking trail.

Each day in May, we have committed to:
- Fruit Snack Meditation (mindful eating)
- Student-led Meditation
- Food Contemplations
- Noble Silence (coming back to ourselves)
- Karma Yoga (taking care of our spaces mindfully)

Once a week we also commit to:
- Deep Relaxation
- Nature Meditation at Bush School
- Whole School Awareness

Personally, I’ve been integrating the Food Contemplations and mindful eating into my daily life.

So far, the students have raised $700 of their very ambitious $2000 goal! I’d love to contribute to the team’s goal. If you would like to donate to our fundraising efforts, you can do that here. If you would prefer to contribute by trying some of these meditations yourself that would be wonderful too! If you need help knowing how to do any of these, please be in touch, I’d love to share what we do at the school!

Term 2 classes have begun!
Inside Out Dance Theatre & Lazuli Wellbeing

This October will mark the 10th year that I have been teaching weekly classes in Daylesford and Hepburn 🧘🏻‍♀️💗✨

You are welcome to join these classes at any time.
Whilst regular students are on a journey, slowly building from week to week, learning, growing, practicing, integrating what has been taught before, each class also stands on its own, with clear guidance and support, meaning that you really are welcome to start, whenever it’s right for you.

Come as you are. Start where you are at. Yoga for real bodies.

Feeling great is one of the reasons I practise yoga. Another is, that it helps me to be great. By this, I mean it helps me to be patient and calmer than I would be without it in trying situations. Why do you practise yoga?

Nigella Lawson, the recently announced new judge on The Great British Bake Off, has revealed that she prefers slower movement to anything intense, with Iyengar yoga her go-to practice. 🧘‍♀️🍰

Over the years, exercise has helped the 66-year-old maintain her health and wellbeing. 'I do yoga three times a week,' she told Good Housekeeping. 'I have to do something I enjoy, otherwise I wouldn’t do it. The older I get, the more I realise I have got to do lots of stretching. In particular, Nigella favours 'a rather slow form of yoga called Iyengar' that highlights precision and correct positioning when performing postures, often using props like blocks and belts as support. For her, fitness is as much about overall wellbeing as it is about physical results.

This image holds a quiet truth for me.
Deep gratitude for my teacher Shayna , and the strong Iyengar yoga lineage that I belong to. For a practice that continues to nourish, deepen, inform, transform and change.

Transformation through staying.
Through depth rather than distraction.
Through one practice, lived over time, instead of many held lightly.

Four days of sustained dedication to round off the school holidays — continuous professional development at its deepest level. No final outcome to reach. The practice is the practice.

Run by one of my esteemed colleagues, Glenys, this course would set you up well to attend any of my General level classes here in Daylesford and Hepburn. If you are a Ballarat based person, I can't recommend Ballarat Yoga highly enough. This course would set you up well to learn yoga properly, step-by-step, from the ground up.

This last week I spent learning from Pixie Lillas.

It was truly an honour to be able to practice alongside fellow teachers and long term students under the experienced guidance and eye of Pixie.

They say there’s 6 degrees of separation from you and anyone in the world. Here, in the style of yoga that I study and teach, there is 2. Pixie was a student of B.K.S. Iyengar and Dona Holleman. My teacher Shayna Ogden is a student of Pixie’s, and here am I.

I’ve come away inspired, ignited, curious and very humbled, with lots more to explore of myself and this subject.

Term 4 Yoga Starts Tomorrow!

Spring is here — the days are warming up, (what wonderful weekend weather we’ve had!) the flowers are blooming (these beauties are from out the front of Lazuli), and it’s the perfect time to reconnect with your body, mind and breath.

We begin this Monday 6th October. Yoga is for every body and everyone is welcome, whether you are a returning student or just beginning your yoga journey.

Classes are a chance to move mindfully, build strength, and find a sense of calm and quiet. Classe are well supported for all abilities and are a friendly, warm welcoming community.

Class Schedule
Mondays (General class), 9:30-11am @ Lazuli Wellbeing in Hepburn
Thursdays (Gentle Foundations) 6:15 - 7:30pm @ Inside Out Dance Studio in Daylesford
Saturdays (General class) 9:30-11am @ Inside Out Dance Studio in Daylesford
