Arohamai whanau a late post!

Last day update was a little delayed as we were busy.

We got up to early rain and wind so Sammie had to be creative with out early morning stretching routine.

We smashed out breakfast and headed to the grounds.

Our older bodies were aching, the younger ones were rearing to go for the last game.

The day started to clear up and the wind dropped off. Our newest player joined the team which gave more chance for us to rest between subbing. We played Taitokerau and the full tine score was 1-1.
As it was a finals round we went straight into a penalty shootout.

Unfortunately we lost the shootout so we officially came 6th.

We had many team pics and then it was time to hand out team awards.

Our youngest player Addi took out the players player and Morgan the Coaches award. Well dont to you both, you both deserved the recognition and were a pleasure to play with.

Then came the time to part ways. It was rather sad to see this chapter come to an end!

Addi, Morgan, Paige (aka Rylie), Katie, Mandy (aka Moko), Jess, Olivia and Sasha thank you for supporting us on this kaupapa!!

Akeshia, thank you for everything you have done up to and durring this tournament. You have done an amazing job at leading the team.

Casey, your little observations on and off field were welcome

Alicia, Aunty, Pare, and Andrea, thank you all for your efforts, determination and work rate it was wonderful playing with you all.
No-one can take away the laughs we all shared this week!

Rest up for now, we are working on the next years kaupapa.

To our amazing Coach, thank you for your commitment and dedication to us in the lead up to this tournament and duriing it. You tock Sammie.

Kristina and Doreen, as said the other day, thank you for your support and for being there to help out over the past few days!

Te Aho, thank you to you and Malones for the awhi for us and the support towards our fundraising, nga mihi nui!

Thank you to everyone back home who has supported us, from the bottom of our hearts we appreciate you.

Day three….

Today was an early start. Again Sammie took us for a walk to wake up the muscles and get the blood pumping through our tired legs.

We had some breakfast and then made our way to the grounds for the first game of the day.

Te Waipounamu were too good for us today meaning we didnt have to back it up to play a 2nd game. Instead we all hit the pop up store on ground and it was Mussel or whitebait fritters for most of us.

Then we headed off in different directions to get in some retail therapy in.

It was then time to collect out hangi packs, which also included fry bread, Steamed pudding and a drink. It was yummy, thank you to the kai mahi that prepared it for all of the teams.

Then we headed to our pōwhakangāhau.

We were first to perform with Tamaki, then all our other roopu also performed.

The NZ Maori U21 men and women squads were named and big shout out to the selected players.

We would like to acknowledge, we have had lots of family and friends support us on this kaupapa, back home in Darwin through our fundraising efforts and for that we are truely thankful. We have certainly worked hard to make it worth while. To all our family and friends who are here supporting us at every game. We have all had many come along to awhi us and we are so thankful to hear your cheers from the sidelines. Its beeso cold on the sidelines, we have faced wind and rain but you still come out to see us, thank you all so much!

And lastly to those supporters who have travelled from home Christina, Doreen, TeAho you guys rock. You have been there every step of the way, we all send you the biggest aroha!

We would not have a team without our Tamaki players, thank you ladies for taking a leap of faith and joining us this year.

Now Te Aumangea, lets give it all we got!
Lest rest for the night, we have another early start.

Tomorrow we play Te Tai Tokerau at 8am at AGC Strathallan Hockey Stadium.

Tune in for our update following the finals apopo. We are playing off for 5th and 6th position.

Kia ora Ano,

Today we woke up to a very fresh morning.
Cool and windy. Sammie had us up and walking the surrounding hilly streets.

We headed to our game and warmed up extra hard to push through the 14degree temperature. We played a hard game against Tamaki but went down 2-0.

It was a game where we dug deep.

We then ran off to do a bit of hot and cold water therapy to look after these old ducks and their muscles.

Had a lovely dinner preppared by Doreen and Sammie while the rest of us went to Kapa haka practice for tomorrow nights performance.

We snuck in a feed of oysters and kina for dessert so good luck to Te Waipounamu we might be running on extra gas for tomorrow mornings early game at 9am.

Morena Koutou,

Apologies for the late post but to catch you up, we arrived in NZ earlier in the week.
Settled into our team accommodation and had our first training session on Thursday evening.

It was cold but not windy and we had a light drizzle, but the team meet ag greet went well as did our first training session.
Running was so much easier than expected due to no heat 🤣.

Sammy had us up for our morning walk and getting our blood moving. Unfortunately we are staying at the top of a long steep driveway. But no hill sprints just yet lol.

We then went onto attending the tournament powhiri (welcome). We were appreciative that our team was acknowledged for travelling the distance.

Then we played our first game against Waikato-Maniapoto.
We started the game with majority posession, scored some penalty corners and into the firs quarter we scored.

We maintained momentum into the half time, then our opponents came out firing and really made our team work harder.

We managed to hold our lead and came away with the win.

We cooled off, and went home to prep for game 2.

Today we will be playing at Karaka, at the ACG school against Tamaki.

Its almost morning walk time and im still in my PJs. So i better role.

Raffle 1 (blue sheet): Tickets are priced at $25 each, with two cash prizes to be won. The first prize is $1000, while the second prize is $300.

Raffle 2 (green sheet): Tickets are available for $10 each, with two taonga (treasures) prizes to be won. The first prize is a manaia pounamu (greenstone) from Te Kauwhata, 2nd prize is a paua and pounamu (greenstone) necklace and earring set.
If any interstate or overseas buyers win a taonga item, we are happy to send them in the post.
