ENTRIES NOW OPEN!

The 2026 Coomealla Junior Open will be held on Thursday 1 October at Coomealla Golf Club.

This year’s Junior Open will feature two separate events on the same day, allowing junior golfers of different ages and experience levels to get involved. Whether you are new to golf or an experienced junior player, there is an event for everyone!

18-HOLE JUNIOR OPEN

Open to golfers aged 17 years and under
Golf Australia handicap required
18-hole individual competition
Open to junior golfers from NSW, Victoria, South Australia and beyond
Trophies and prizes awarded to the top performers

9-HOLE JUNIOR EVENT

Designed for developing junior golfers
Recommended for players aged 15 years and under or those newer to the game
Played on a modified 9-hole course
A great stepping stone towards 18-hole golf

A fun, friendly and welcoming introduction to competition golf

THE FRANK GEYER SHIELD

The Frank Geyer Shield Team Challenge will also be on the line, with Murray Darling Golf Association clubs competing for team honours.

Riverside Golf Club are the defending holders after winning the inaugural Shield in 2025. Can they defend it, or will another MDGA club take the Shield home in 2026?

THE MONTHLY MEDAL DYNASTY

Andrew Rix and the Quest for Three!

The course is quiet now.

But when the September Monthly Medal gets underway, one golfer will arrive at Coomealla carrying something rarely seen in club golf:

The opportunity to win three consecutive Monthly Medals.

For most golfers, a moment of this size deserves time to be appreciated.

Andrew Rix is unlikely to waste any.

Rix likes his golf the same way he likes his rounds—quick, efficient and with absolutely no interest in slow play.

History may be waiting.

Andrew certainly won’t keep it waiting.

To understand how he arrived here, the story must return to July.

JULY

It began with one good round.

One winning score.

One Monthly Medal.

Rix had earned a result any golfer would be proud to claim.

At the time, nobody called it the beginning of a dynasty. It was simply one medal, one moment and one name at the top of the results.

Then August arrived.

AUGUST

Golf has a habit of bringing players back to earth.

The swing that worked last month can disappear. Putts that found the centre of the cup can suddenly slide past the edge. Confidence can vanish somewhere between the practice green and the opening tee.

Winning once is difficult.

Winning again is something else entirely.

But Rix did exactly that.

Another strong round. Another winning score. Another Monthly Medal.

Back-to-back.

July belonged to Andrew Rix.

Now August belonged to him as well.

What had started as an excellent result was becoming a remarkable run—and around Coomie, one question began to emerge:

Could he possibly do it again?

SEPTEMBER

Now, one final chapter remains.

While others are preparing to chase the 2026 Coomealla Club Championship and have their names etched onto the honour board, Rix is pursuing a different place in club folklore.

Three consecutive Monthly Medals.

A clean sweep of July, August and September.

Back-to-back-to-back.

Early preparations for a parade down Tapio Avenue in Dareton are reportedly underway. The commemorative merchandise has been designed, the shirts are ready and the stubby holders are standing by.

All that remains is the minor matter of winning the September Monthly Medal.

The previous two victories offer no head start. Reputation earns no concessions. The scorecard remembers only the shots played that day.

There are still 18 holes standing between Andrew Rix and history.

Knowing Andrew, they shouldn’t take long.

Every fairway found will move him closer.

Every missed opportunity will feel larger.

Every putt will carry the weight of the two months that came before it.

Perhaps September will bring the dynasty to an end.

Perhaps another golfer will step forward and claim the medal.

Or perhaps Rix will produce one more winning round and complete one of the great Monthly Medal runs in Coomie history.

JULY. AUGUST. SEPTEMBER?

SEVEN COOMIE REPRESENTATIVES HEADING TO COUNTRY WEEK!

Coomealla Golf Club is proud to have seven members selected in the Murray Darling Golf Association teams, set to compete at the 2026 Golf Australia Country Week Teams’ Matches in Ballarat.

Having seven players selected is a fantastic achievement for Coomealla and really showcases the golfing talent in our club.

The course is ready.
The scorecards are waiting.
Championship weekend has arrived.

To every Coomealla member stepping onto the first tee today, we wish you the very best for this year’s Club Championships.

Some will chase a championship title. Others will chase their handicap or a personal best. Every player will have their own reason for being there—and every one of them will share the same challenge.

Three rounds. Every shot counts.

Club Championship golf will test your swing, your patience and your ability to move on when the ball refuses to follow the plan.

Stay composed. Back yourself. Compete hard, respect the game and enjoy sharing the occasion with your fellow members.

May the fairways be generous, the putts behave and the trees return at least a few golf balls.

The honour board is waiting—but the Championships belong to every member prepared to step forward and accept the challenge.

1 DAY TO GO! - THE COOMIE FIRST-TEE PLAYLIST

Tomorrow, Coomie’s first tee becomes centre stage.

The names will be called, the gallery will fall silent, and golfers who have made the same swing thousands of times will suddenly forget what they normally do with their hands.

If you could choose one song to play as you walk onto the first tee, what would it be?

“Thunderstruck” — arriving with serious intent.

“Under Pressure” — choosing honesty.

“The Gambler” — planning to play safely, then immediately changing your mind.

“I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For” — already searching through the trees.

The contenders have prepared in different ways.

Some have practised. Some have cleaned their clubs. Others have watched fourteen swing videos and now have absolutely no idea how the golf swing works.

Comment your walk-up song below, then tag one mate and assign theirs.

All selections are final. No appeals will be heard after the opening tee shot—regardless of whether the ball finds the fairway, the trees or a nearby postcode.

The clubs are cleaned.

2 DAYS TO GO!

Every Club Championship needs a genuine contender.

Ron Chopper heads into the Club Champs tied for the lead, armed with confidence, ambition and absolutely no intention of letting sensible course management get in the way.

The expectations are enormous. The pressure is real. The shot selection is… adventurous.

THE COOMIE CLUB CHAMPS COUNTDOWN

3 DAYS TO GO!

For the average golfer, Club Championships aren’t about perfection.

They’re about survival.

Keeping the driver somewhere on the course. Getting out of the bunker before someone hands you the rake. Avoiding the dreaded three-putt. And making it back to the clubhouse without one hole completely wrecking the scorecard.

But with three days to go, the golfing gods have offered everyone a rare bit of help:

Every golfer has said at least one of these—and usually just before things went horribly wrong.

Which sentence causes the most trouble on a golf course?

A. “Watch this.”

B. “I’ve figured it out.”
