SSFA GSAP 12s
vs Sydney University SFC
Round Three - 19/7/20
Win
Today the SSFA GSAP 12s travelled to play at Sydney University after a last minute venue change away from Harrie Dening.
The change of grounds may have contributed to our lack of intensity early in the match and we soon found ourselves trailing 1-0. Sydney Uni were playing two bigger, faster girls up front and they were cutting through our defence with long balls.
We were struggling to move the ball out of our defensive third and they soon made us pay with another goal. Sydney Uni led 2-0 at half time.
Our one highlight from the first half was a fantastic run by Ant who ran the ball all the way from defence into attack, her shot barely missing to the right of the goals.
During his half-time talk Bryan encouraged us to move the ball more quickly out of defence to give our forwards more opportunities. Despite the scoreline, we knew we had a big chance of coming back and winning the game.
We started off the second half like a different side, moving the ball more quickly and creating more opportunities to score.
The first of these opportunities came my way and I was able to turn and shoot the ball past the keeper into the far side of the net to get us on the board. 2-1 Uni.
Minutes later, Jaz made a great run down the right edge of the park and crossed the ball into an unmarked Tallie who beat the keeper to score the equaliser.
Our spirits lifted and we continued to maintain the majority of possession, now using the width of the park. In the final few minutes Miki showed more determination than her opponents to score two late goals to get us up to lead to win the game.
Miki was awarded Beyoncé (the player of the match ball) because of her 2 goal effort.
Next week we shall take on Sydney Olympic and hope to come out on top.
