John's Dojo

John's Dojo John's Dojo is a traditional Karate Dojo affiliated with the JKA-SKC of Australasia. My passion for karate began when I was 15.

I did Judo for several years and switched to karate at the age of 15. I believe in hard, disciplined traditional training and plan to share my passion as a means of encouragement and education. Hopefully this page will help to dispel some of the erroneous myths surrounding the art. Classes are run for carefully selected students at mutually agreed times.

I started my kata challenge a little later than I initially intended, but sadly was not able to go beyond 85 repetitions due to an injury. While doing my 2nd or 3rd Meikyo I experienced a stabbing pain in my left calf muscle and tendon. After the 5th Meikyo the pain had not abated. Although I considered continuing at a slower place, I decided to stop and thereby avoid any further injury which would affect my training in the next couple of weeks. Needless to say I am a little disappointed as this is the first time that I have not been able to complete 100 consecutive katas.

I have just heard that the 100 Kata for Karate Day will take place on Saturday the 25th October 2025. I have signed up and plan to ๏ฟผstart my warm up for the challenge at 9am. I have chosen 5 of my favourite katas and plan to do 20 repetitions of each kata. I invite all my karate friends to join me in this challenge.

I have the absolute pleasure in confirming that Barry Dugmore from Dulverton passed his 6th kyu (green belt) today in front of Alan Campbell Sensei (8th Dan, Chief Instructor of JKS England). Barry is a true inspiration and, at 84 years old, is the oldest member of JKS England! It is true to say that Barry left an indelible mark on all that witnessed his achievement today.
