MPL - League Match 5
Rangers XI vs CUCC Kings
When: Sunday 30th June, 2024 at 1:15 PM
Venue: Cranbourne West Oval
Toss: Rangers XI won the Toss and Opted to Bat

Batting:
This time Karthik himself stepped up to open with Pawan. Pawan started off with Rampage again and scored 13 runs in 1 over. Good partnership given from Karthik from the other end by rotating the strike. At the end of 4 over powerplay they were 40/1 at 10 R.P.O. Unfortunately they lost two quick wickets Pawan and Ambarish in quick successions. Thats when Hiten the last time champion came to the crease and both Karthik and Hiten kept the score ticking with very good 56 run partnership in the middle overs. After 12 overs Rangers were 98/2.

Rangers took the second powerplay of 2 overs, but thats when the collapse started after the loss of Hiten's and Karthik's wicket. Wickets just kept on tumbling with Rangers scoring just 128/9 in 20 overs.

Bowling:
Defending 128 is always tough in T20 format and with CUCC winning 3 out of 4 matches were always favorites in the game. Karthik started off the bowling attack with Akash and Hiten and both were extremely consistent and attacking. Akash took a wicket. Karthik, fielding at point displayed an extra ordinary effort to get the other batsman run out direct hit which pushed CUCC on the backfoot. After 4 over powerplay CUCC were just 23/2.

Its now the time for spin attack Arul and Adi. There was a partnership slowly building but Adi broke that in his first over. Arul on the other hand was outstanding as he was in the last match, and took a 5 fer. After 10 overs CUCC were 58/7 with requiring 71 runs in next 10 overs. Somehow Arul gave some runs in his last over followed by another expensive over from Karthik. It was tense moment as there was another partnership building in between. Thats when Karthik went to Hiten and Akash again. They were so amazing giving just 8 runs in 3 overs and yet again Akash took one more wicket of a set batsman. CUCC were 106/9. 23 runs required now and just one wicket in hand. There were lot of doubts going on in Karthik's mind whether to bowl Preet, Manbir or he himself take a chance. Finally he backed himself with the support of his Team and bowled a slow medium delivery straight to the wicket and its clean BOWLED. Thats It.

RANGERS WON THE MATCH BY 22 RUNS.

There are very bleak chances of Rangers to get into Top 16 but still they are ready to fight till the end.

MPL - League Match 4
Rangers XI vs Punjab Sher
When: Sunday 23rd June, 2024 at 1:15 PM
Venue: Ramlegh Reserve - Oval 2
Toss: Punjab Sher won the toss and decided to Bowl

Bowling:
Rangers couldnt capitalize the powerplay this time giving away too many runs. Akash was amazing on one side with just 13 runs off 2 overs but Preet and Karthik were way two expensive. Both of them together gave 39 runs in 2 overs. After power play Shers were 52 for no loss.

Karthik looked forward to spin with Arul and Adi as good options and both were amazing with their job. Arul was at his best with taking 3 wickets in a single over where as Adi successfully took the first wicket of Shers and controlled the Run rate. Both of them together conceded just 55 runs in 8 overs and took 4 wickets. Karthik took over the bowling to keep the ball slow but he couldnt succeed. It was very bad day for him conceding a massive 58 runs in just 3 overs. Hiten took the ball on other hand and did a decent job by taking two wickets. There were quite a few chances in the field which Rangers couldnt capitalize too.

Shers put a massive 204 target in front of Rangers.

Batting:
As usual Pawan started the Rampage by hitting ruthlessly. Unfortunately he had to depart at 31(10) followed by Adi too. This time Hiten was promoted top of the order. In just 3.3 overs Rangers reached their 50. With some good bowling in between by Shers Rangers were going slow and scored 92/6 off 10 overs. All of the middle order Ambarish, Karthik, Akash, and Namish went cheaply without scoring much. However youngster Prashva came to the crease to support Hiten. Both of them kept on hitting boundaries and sixes and moved the score card at consisten pace.

At one stage Rangers required just 50 runs of 5 overs which is quite chasable in modern day cricket. Both Prashva and Hiten made a good partnership of 69 runs in very few deliveries. Unfortunately thats when they lot Prashva and Preet in quick successions. Hiten was the lone Ranger alongside injured Sukhi. They tried their level best to finish the job but unfortunately fell short 15 runs from the target.

RESULT: PUNJAB SHERS WON BY 14 RUNS.

Powerplay:
It was an amazing powerplay for Rangers conceding just 27 runs and taking a wicket. Very good bowling by Akash who gave away just 7 runs and took a wicket. Preet too contributed well by taking a wicket.

Rest of the Overs:
Despite having very good powerplay Rangers couldnt capitalize it and kept on giving runs there after. Except Adi none of the bowlers were effective. It was very good spell by Adi just conceding 32 runs off 4 overs and taking 2 wickets.
Overall Urban Raiders scored 203/6 in 20 overs.

Batting:
Powerplay:
Massive target on the board and this time Sukhi came to bat alongside Pawan. As usual Pawan was on a rampage with sixes and four. In the Powerplay Rangers were 49/0 after 4 overs.

Rest of the overs:
However it is the 5th over when the batting order collapsed again with Rangers losing 3 wickets in a single over in the form of Pawan, Ambarish and Adi. Even Karthik went off cheaply. There were some runs made by Hiten, Akash, and Namish but they weren't sufficient for Rangers to make a decent total and keep their runrate. Rangers were all out for 113 with 15 balls to spare.

Due to rain match was reduced to 18 overs a side

Bowling:
1st Powerplay:
Akash and Hiten yet again led the bowling attack. Akash was very productive and economic but on the other hand Hiten was expensive in his first over giving 17 runs. Karthik took off Hiten and gave the bowling to Preet who gave only 9 runs and took an important wicket of Ajay. In the first powerplay Rangers managed to restrict Panthers to 39/1.

Middle overs:
Karthik brought his spin duo Nitish and Arul and both were good for 3 overs but Arul conceded 13 runs in his second over. Nitish was very economic on the other side giving just 19 runs in 3 overs. Karthik himself came to attack and bowled very good couple of overs conceding just 11 runs. Preet also was good on the other side conceding 21 runs in 3 overs. After 13 overs Panthers were 105/1. Unfortunately no wickets lost.

2nd Powerplay:
Second powerplay was reduced to just 1 over where Karthik brought Hiten but yet again Hiten was expensive conceding 10 runs.

Manoj bowled very good 1st over giving just 6 runs. But Karthik on the other end gave 22 runs in his 3rd over which was very expensive over and Panthers kept on going from there will lot of wickets in hand. Manoj and Hiten were expensive too there after and Panthers scored 47 runs in 3 overs finishing for 169/1.

Batting:
Powerplay:
Adi joined Pawan in the run chase this time due to absence of Ambarish and Sukhi. Unfortunately Adi got out first ball knicked to keeper. Akash came to the crease and joined Pawan. Required Runrate was 10 RPO. Unfortunately Rangers couldnt capitalize the powerplay as they scored just 30 runs from 4 overs losing a wicket.

Middle overs:
Both Akash and Pawan had a very good partnership of 53(38) , together hit 3 sixes and kept the scorecard ticking. Unfortunately that wasnt sufficient and the required runrate kept on increasing with Rangers requiring 116 off 66 balls at 10.5 RPO. After the wickets of Pawan and Akash, its no show by the entire squad falling all out for just 91 runs and Rangers losing the game by a massive margin.

1st Powerplay
Karthik brought his pace attack in the 1st powerplay. The two swing bowlers who are good with new ball Akash and Hiten were spot-on right from the beginning albeit few boundaries here and there. At the end of 1st 4 over powerplay Royals were just 32 for the loss of 1 wicket.

Middle Over:
Spin and medium pace combination came to attack in the form of Arul and Karthik. Both of them were very economical in their spells with Arul conceding 31/1 in 4 overs and Karthik 19/2 in 4 overs. Unfortunately Adi and Manbir were a bit expensive with their spells conceding 37 runs in 3 overs. Preet bowled a good over with giving just 5 runs. At the end of 16 overs Royals were 124/5.

2nd Powerplay and final overs:
Once again Akash and Hiten bowled very good spell in powerplay conceding just 13 runs. However Akash was taken off by Royals in his final over where he conceding 20 runs. Hiten was economical on the other end with mixing up his slowers and yorkers.

Royals scored 161/9 after 20 overs.

Batting:
Pawan and Ambarish started the innings chasing a target of 162 in 20 overs. Require Runrate was 8.1 RPO. It was slow first over with Brijender conceding only 3 runs. However Pawan made sure runrate was up and high . He hit two amazing upper cuts which shattered the glass of the pavillion :-). Brijender bowled very good 2nd over as well conceding just 3 runs again. However Pawan took off the other bowler and hit a boundary to deep mid wicket and also one six towards Deep Square Leg. At the end of 1st powerplay Rangers were 36/0.

Middle Overs:
The very next over, Ambarish got out knicked to the keeper. Rangers were 42/1 after 5 overs. Aditya came to the crease and did a good job by rotating the strike and making sure the in-form batsman Pawan gets on strike when the ball is new. Pawan hit one more six in the next over towards Deep Mid Wicket. The scoreboard kept on moving at a runrate of 9 per over. Pawan scored his 2nd consecutive 50 in 25 deliveries. After 10 overs Rangers were 85/1.

2nd Powerplay:
Rangers decided to go with second powerplay when Pawan was in the crease. Brijender came to bowl and got Pawan out LBW and yet again conceded just 3 runs. Powerplay wasnt that fruitful as Rangers scored just 10 runs and lost an important wicket. Sukhi came to the crease.

The chase:
Runs were coming at decent pace but at the same time Required Runrate was also climbing up gradually. Rangers lost Adi caught to long on. After 13 overs Rangers were 105/3. Namish came to the crease and kept on rotating the strike with Sukhi. Not long did their partnership last as Sukhi was run out due to a mix up. Hiten came to the crease. Plan has been set that Namish to give strike to Hiten by taking singles. After 17 overs Rangers were 129/4 and require 33 runs in 3 overs. Seems to be a tough task but not impossible as always.

Game Changing Innings:
It was 18th over which changed the tone of the game with first ball went for 4 Byes. Hiten hit a straight six above the bowlers head the next ball, a four to deep point and a six again to deep mid wicket. A total of 23 runs were scored.

Final overs:
It was just 10 runs now in 12 balls but the game wasnt finished yet. Only 6 runs were scored in the penultimate over and lost Namish Run Out with 4 runs to score of final over. Two dot balls and it was 4 of 4. Hiten took a single and handed it over to Karthik. Karthik tried to cut the ball, however it took inside edge and bounced above the keeper to the Third Man for 2 runs. Scores levelled and only 1 run to win of 2 balls. Karthik made sure to connect the ball and hit a boundary to deep extra cover. THAT'S IT.

Batting:

Powerplay:
Pawan and Ambarish got into the crease chasing the target. Pawan as usual was on his toe and started hitting right from the beginning of the innings. Ambarish played a beautiful loft over the mid wicket for four. Not long, unfortunately he was caught out to covers the next over. Namish got into the crease but couldnt add much to the score as he got out at mid-off in leg spin bowling which was always been his improvement area. Sukhi came to the crease and as usual Sukhi and Pawan started scoring off well and making decent partnership. At the end of powerply Rangers were 55/2.

Middle overs:
There was amazing 61(40) partnership between Pawan and Sukhi. This is 3rd 50 run partnership between the duo in probably last 6 matches. Pawan hit an amazing 6 over the deep mid wicket which almost smashed the School window. Sukhi was playing to the target and played according the team's requirement. Unfortunately Pawan got out for a slow delivery which he missed and got bowled. Rangers were 93/3 after 10.3 overs. South Paw Prashva came to the crease and hit a four on very first ball he faced making sure that he is not left behind in hitting boundaries. Later Sukhi got bowled at 22 to an amazing left arm in-swinging delivery. Just 35 runs to win with 7 wickets in hand and 8 overs left. Target got easier when Nitish and Prashva continued to play their innings by rotating the strike and hitting boundaries now and then.

Just 10 runs to win when Prashva got retired and brought his new batsman Arul. Arul scored a boundary of his first ball. Singles there after without losing a wicket and Rangers won the match.

Thunder 11 won the toss and decided to bowl first.

Batting:
Sukhi and Pawan on to the crease and yet again it was amazing partnership between both scoring 64 runs in 7 overs. Power play Run Rate was 9 which was very good and Rangers were expecting the overall score to be around 180. Pawan got out and Prashva came to the crease but couldnt add much to the scrore. At the end of 10 overs Rangers were 86/2. Ambarish joined Sukhi, however due to dew on the ground and spinners coming in, the ball was hardly travelling to the boundary. Sukhi lost his wicket at 98. The Runrate was slopping down. On the other hand even wickets were tumbling. Ambarish lost his wicket at 108. Namish was striking the ball from the middle of the bat however due to Mixup between Namish and Karthik, Namish got run out. Nitish came to the crease but due to pressure building up he too got out. Karthik also got run out due to mix up with Preet. There after the tailenders couldnt really add much to the score With Arul, Ady and Manbir adding just 3 runs to the board. Rangers got all out at 123.

Bowling:
It was not a cake walk for Thunder 11 though. Karthik took the bowling responsibiltiies on his shoulder and bowled very good first over. Nitish joined Karthik from the other end. However Karthik was expensive in his second over conceded 12 runs. Nitish took the first wicket and also made sure run rate didnt climb much. Karthik brought Arul to the attackand Arul quickly took the wicket of the batter who scored 50 last match. At the end of power play Thunder 11 were 39/2. Rangers kept them under pressure and bowled really well. Nitish and Arul had good partnership. After 8 overs score was 53/3. Karthik then brought Preet to the attack as last match he bowled really well by taking 3 wickets. Unfortunately Preet conceded 17 runs in an over and this is when momentum has shifted towards Thunder 11. Karthik bowled one more over and conceded 10 runs and Thunder 11 were 80/3 at the end of 10 overs. At this stage Rangers were ahead of Thunders. However after this there were couple of miss catches and no other bowler than Nitish and Arul succeeded in containing Thunders. Thunders chased down tthe target in 14 overs.

As usual Rangers went with their dynamic opening pair Pawan and Sukhi. Pawan scored a boundary on the very first ball. Unfortunately Pawan lost his wicket, Run Out due to mix up between Sukhi and Pawan. Ambarish came to the non-strikers end. Yet again on the very next ball Ambarish got run out due to mix up. Rangers were in trouble. Thats the time when Karthik joined Sukhi in the run chase. They believed that if they stay till the end they can easily chase the target. Karthik was rotating the strike at one end where as Sukhi was hitting boundaries. He hit 5 boundaries in a single over and covered the runrate up. In Powerplay Rangers were 60/2.

Middle Overs:
108 runs required of 84 deliveries, the task seemed to be easy. However Rangers doesnt have a good repuation of chasing the targets down. Thats when they lost Sukhi Paaji giving an easy catch to Leg spinner and Rangers were 72/3 after 8. They even lost Virender and Nitish in quick succession. Rangers were 96/5 and required 72 to win in 50 balls. Karthik made sure Required Runrate doesnt cross 10 and hit a boundary immediately. Preet came to join Karthik. They ran so good between the wickets and kept the pressure on the fielders. At a time opposition team were very tensed thinking where to set the field as both of them were playing in all directions.

Death overs:

It was all easy there after requiring just 34 runs of 4 overs and this duo on crease made sure Rangers were never out of run chase. In the next two overs they scored 24 runs and made sure its only singles there after to finish the game and successfully chased down the target in 19.2 overs.

Bowling:

Powerplay:
It was an amazing powerplay from bowling perspective. Karthik started off with full time spinner Arul and King of Swing Akash. Both of them took a wicket each. Arul was very economical however Akash was a bit expensive as the ball was getting wet due to dew. Nitish joined Arul and took the wicket on very first ball. At the end of Poweplay Thunder 11 were just 44/3.

Last 6 overs went very economical with Rangers giving away just 44 runs and taking 4 wickets. Thunder 11 were 184/8 after 20 overs.

At the end of powerplay Rangers were 64/1.

After getting a good start the runrate never let the team down however Rangers lost few wickets very cheaply.
Pawan made sure the runrate is steady alongside Namish and Nitish. Runs kept on coming from Pawan's blade and soon he reached 50 in just 35 balls. Nitish gave a decent contribution with bat supporting Pawan by scoring 22 valuable runs. Pawan was the lone warrior in the run chase as it got very important to maintain the runrate and he made sure it was never an issue.

Finally it came to 2 overs 20 runs when Pawan scored 12 runs of the penultimate over, leaving just 8 runs on the board for the victory. He himself was on 99. Just 8 runs required of 6 balls.
