My painting below 'Saying NO to Violence', was painted, for the 2007 Archibald Art Prize. I painted it from life and a photo reference that was taken thirty minutes before I was severely beaten and pushed out of the car just out of Mooroopna, in Victoria. I have never forgotten the horror and panic of watching our car disappear down the highway with my six-month-old baby still strapped into her car seat. Nor can I ever forget the generosity of the two middle-aged men who stopped to see if they could take me to the hospital.
All I could think about was that my beautiful six-month -old, baby girl, still strapped into her car seat ......... WITH MY ABUSER driving like a maniac further into the distance.
You might ask what I did to deserve this latest beating. Answer : I switched off the radio because it was it was full of static, that's all.
Now, yet another woman has been violently killed, by her partner, in ' this lucky country' we live in. Surely all these years of campaigning against DV since that last beating of mine, that we women, should be able to live in a safe, secure, and non-violent environment, particularly in Australia where we are all supposed to be given a fair go.!!
Thirty women killed by violent partners in the last four months !!!! That is downright disgraceful!!
THIS HAS TO STOP!! THERE HAS TO A SOLUTION AND SOON Mr Prime Minister.
