If you are a cricketer, no visit to the Nambucca Region is complete, without a visit to Phillip Hughes Oval at Macksville.

Phillip Hughes was an exceptionally talented young cricketer, rising from the local district to the international stage.

The youngest cricketer to score a century in each innings of a test match, Hughes is forever remembered in his home town.

If you get the chance to visit, I suggest you do.
It’s a lovely tribute to a genuine local hero.

On my work travels today, I found a few items in the Salvos Store at Nambucca Heads.

A pink cap from the Woolworths Cricket Blast, and two pink caps from the McGrath Foundation Pink Stumps Day.

A nice addition to the collection.

During our time in Fiji earlier this month, we visited the Fiji Museum.

In the gift shop, was a copy of a book written by Phillip SNOW, featuring a 1954 photograph of Snow and former England captain Douglas JARDINE walking out to open the batting.

Snow was a second XI captain at Leicester, before moving to Fiji where he was Magistrate and Provincial Commissioner, representing the British government.

He also captained the Fiji national cricket team, on their 1948 tour of New Zealand.

It promises to be a very interesting read.

On a holiday visit to Suva, Fiji I detoured from my wander through town, and into the local Op Shop.

To my great delight, I was able to add a Beaumaris Cricket Club cap to The Cricket Collection.

It always pays to look !

On my drive back from Melbourne, I stopped at a few places, on a ‘just in case’ mission to maybe add to The Cricket Collection.

At Violet Town, rummaging in the stubble holder basket, I found this little gem.

How much, I asked politely.
Fifty cents, I was told … before another assistance intervened.
Special discount for you, she said … one dollar !

Amid much laughter, I went to the car and got a dollar coin.

The discounted price was paid, and another cricket-themed stubble holder, added to the collection.

Found a few treasures the other day in an ‘Op Shop’ to bring back into The Cricket Collection.

The search is now on, to try and find a little background information about these trophies, and who earned them.
