End of season recap for 2025/26,
The last two home and away games seen our Agrade boy’s take on Tahara and College. In both games the side came away without the chocolates. They battled hard against Tahara with both the bat and ball but came up 60 runs short in the run chase. Best with the ball was Carey Megaw with 3 wickets and 2 wickets to both Rick Killey and Connor Kelly. With the bat there were multiple batsmen to reach double figures with the skipper, Ben Holmes top scoring with 20.
In the final home and away game the boys took on College at Casterton and they were first ones to make use of the pitch by winning the toss and choosing to bat first. Choosing to bat was a great decision, but unfortunately it wasn’t. Losing wickets for not many runs wasn’t the plan but it was what happened. The only one to post a decent score was Rick Killey with 59. The boys all out for 144. College took every chance to gain an outright win coming out early and trying to apply the pressure. With rain forecasted for the second week both teams knew it would be a shortened day. Once College scored the winning runs the captains shook hands and that was that. The only bright moment in our bowling innings was Josh Jones taking 3 wickets.
Unfortunately for either of our Agrade side they were unable to make the finals. The team struggled all year only managing to get 2 wins for the season against St Andrew’s and also against Hamilton. They had some close encounters coming down to the wire against Portland tigers and also against Grampians. They will look to regroup or season 26/27 with the same playing group and welcome all new players to the club.
For the Bgrade their season did not end they wanted. Their last 5 games were all disappointing results all ending in losses. They had a few tight games but couldn’t get over the line with the results not being their favour. They had a 10 run loss to St Andrew’s in round 15, round 16 a disappointing result to College, round 17 a closer result against Hamilton and in their last game for the season they came so close to pulling off their best win of the year but it wan’t to be, coming up 7 runs short in a game which had almost 500 runs scored in a day! Some standout performances came from Dillan Carlin with 96 not out against St Andrew’s in round 15, Tim Holmes with 61 in round 17 against Hamilton and in round 18 both Mark penny 73 runs and Jake Tomkins 65 were solid contributors. We thank Justin Carlin for his time and efforts to take on the captaincy for the Bgrade side for the season of 25/26.
With that, the senior presentation night will be held this Sunday, March 15th at the Cricket pavilion. With all players and their families welcome to celebrate the season and look back over some of the personal highlights for the year.
