Geoff Duvall’s recap of the 2026 Australian Formula Future titles conducted by St George Power Boat Club on Kogarah Bay over the weekend.

Water conditions were good early but became a little choppy as the racing progressed.

Racing got away with the J3’s, with a field of 8vying for the Gordon Atkinson Trophy.

The winner was Shaun Dwyer in Cornholio 2 with 2 heat wins and a second. This was cemented on the basis of excellent starts and driving to his handicap time.

Last year’s winner, Dylan Wood in Double Trouble was second (2 x 2nd and a third in heats), while Flynn Walker in Spitfire was third (1st , 6th & 7th). Unfortunately, Wyatt Stout in Judgement Day sank at the wharf while attempting to start his motor for heat 1.

J1’s were next in the water with only 3 starters from the 4 entries for the C, L & D Mayfield trophy first raced for in 1992.

Young Joel Gray in Dusty II repeated his effort from 2023 in winning an Australian title with 2 heat wins and a second place. Second was Flynn Dwyer in Shmebulock (1st and 2 x 3rd) making it a real family day after his older brother’s effort in the J3’s. Third was last year’s winner, Hunter Dee in Huntsman Racing with a 2nd and 2 x 3rd placings.

Last up were the J2’s competing for the Mack Kennedy Trophy. There were 6 starters making for some really competitive, exciting and close racing that kept the large contingent of spectators on their toes.

Last year’s winner, Dylan Wood in Double Trouble, proved it was no fluke, retaining his title with 2 firsts and a 2nd. He nailed it in true handicap fashion by starting each race on time and racing to his handicap. Great driving, again Dylan.

Second was Joel Gray in Dusty II (2nd and 2 x 3rd) making it a first and second for the Joel on the day. Third was Tatum Teofilovic in Phantom with a 5th, 4th and 1st in his heats.

Well done to all competitors. The future of our sport is in good hands based on what we witnessed on Kogarah Bay on Saturday.
