Zhik Youth Sail is coming to Canberra! ⛵

For the first time ever, Zhik Youth Sail ACT will take over Lake Burley Griffin from 9 to 11 October, bringing three days of coaching, racing and youth sailing development to the nation’s capital.

Co-hosted by Canberra Yacht Club and YMCA of Canberra Sailing Club, the event has something for sailors across a wide range of experience, from Green Fleet sailors who are brand new to racing through to experienced competitors taking on the ACT Youth Championships.

It is a fantastic opportunity to learn from experienced coaches, race alongside sailors from across the region and experience a major youth sailing event without having to leave Canberra.

And we want to see a big C*C contingent on the water.

It was great to have so many of our members come along to our Safety Boat Refresher Night held yesterday!

There were plenty of great questions and discussions throughout the evening, with Mark doing an excellent job taking everyone through the key procedures, equipment and considerations involved in operating our safety boats.

A big thank you to everyone who came along and got involved. It’s fantastic to see so many members continuing to build their skills and help support safe sailing at C*C.

We’re looking forward to putting it all into practice on the water this Sunday morning! ⛵️

Spring has sprung, the wait is done,
The boats are back and racing’s begun.
With 8 knots northwest and 19 degrees,
Sunday’s looking pretty good on the breeze. ⛵️

The 2026–27 Club racing season officially gets underway this Sunday, 6 September, with Race 1 of the Commerce Management Services Pointscore Series starting at 2:00pm.

The current forecast is looking great for the first race of the season, with partly cloudy conditions, a top of 19°C and around 8 knots from the northwest at start time.

A big thank you to Commerce Management Services for their continued support of Club racing at C*C.

We’re incredibly proud to see Canberra Yacht Club represented across four categories in the 2026 NSW & ACT Sailing Awards.

This year, C*C is a finalist for:

• Club of the Year – Category A
• SheSails Award – Canberra Yacht Club SheSails
• Official of the Year – Gerry Brooks and John Whitfield
• Volunteer of the Year – Gerry Brooks

A huge congratulations and thank you to Gerry and John. The time, knowledge and commitment you both give to sailing and to our club is enormous, and it’s fantastic to see that contribution recognised, with John representing both C*C and Cruising Yacht Club Of Australia in the Official of the Year category.

We’re incredibly proud to see our SheSails program and the Club as a whole recognised as well. These nominations reflect the efforts of the many members, volunteers, instructors, staff and supporters who give so much to C*C throughout the year.

Thank you to Australian Sailing - NSW & ACT for the recognition and for continuing to celebrate the people and clubs that contribute so much to our sport.

Finally, congratulations and best of luck to all of the finalists from across NSW and the ACT. We’re looking forward to celebrating with everyone at the Awards!
