🌍 World Health Day 7 April - Together for Health -stand with science

When is the last time you felt truly connected to the people in your life?

It is something to consider, because we can talk a lot about physical health, but the world is slowly becoming aware of what many women have know for years - loneliness is a health crisis.

It's a question worth sitting with. Because while we talk a lot about physical health, the world is slowly waking up to what many women have known for years - loneliness is a health crisis

But there is some goo d news1 The UK appointed a Minister for Loneliness. Japan followed. And Canada has gone a step further, developing national social connection guidelines grounded in public health research — because the evidence is clear: we are wired to connect.

This isn't about being introverted or "not a people person." It's about the deep human need to be known. To walk alongside someone. To belong.

On World Health Day, I'm thinking about the women I sit with — and walk with — who are connecting after loss, change, or simply years of putting everyone else first.

You're not meant to do this alone. 🌏

I'd love to know — what does real connection look like for you right now? Drop a word or a thought below. 👇

It's break time - time to rest, slow down, share a meal, catch up with people who matter.

I'll be doing just that over Easter, catching up with beautiful friends and stepping away from Walk Together for a few days.🐣

Whatever Easter means to you I hope it brings you something good. 🐰

I will be back on Tuesday 7 April. If you have been thinking of reaching out, I'd love to hear from you when I return. 💛

Mum is coming to visit and you're tired just thinking about it and then you feel guilty for feeling that way.

If that sounds familiar I wrote this blog post for you. Here are a few practical ways to make mum's visits more manageable rather than something you dread. link

Sonja sat down for her first session and said "I don't know where to start."
She'd lost her son in a car accident. She was navigating grief. Her relationship with her mum had become complicated. She was nervous and overwhelmed.
We started by talking about what was going well - her new job, the colleagues who were becoming friends.
Slowly, we moved into the hard stuff. At her pace. On her path.
If you're a woman trying to make sense of your relationships - with partners, family, friends, or even yourself - and you've been thinking about counselling but don't know where to start...
That's exactly where we begin. With wherever you are.

What if I can't explain the problem?
What if I run out of things to say?
What if I can't stop crying?
What if she thinks I'm making a mountain out of nothing?
These are some of the thoughts women share with me about their first counselling session.
If you've been thinking about reaching out but these worries are holding you back, I want you to know: these are completely normal thoughts. And there's a way through them.
I've written about what really happens in that first session - the nerves, the process, and why it's okay that you've been thinking about this for weeks. https://walktogethercounselling.com.au/connection-blog/f/starting-counselling-when-youre-nervous
