Kaleen Tennis Club
As you may be aware, the Chief Minister announced on Tuesday that changes to ACT's Public Health Orders would allow recreational tennis to recommence, subject to compliance with ongoing restrictions including social distancing (as detailed in the Public Health Orders). The changes specifically exclude coaching, training or competition activity.
Since Tuesday, your Committee has been seeking advice as to how to proceed with the safe reopening of the Kaleen courts. It is apparent that the Chief Minister's announcement did not envisage a return to normal activity at the courts. There will be limitations and these will be notified on signs at the courts and on our online booking page. The Club has no alternative but to enforce those limitations.
On that basis, the Club will reopen this Saturday - daytime and night bookings can be made online. Please note (whether you have already made a booking or plan to do so):
- compliance with advertised limitations will be strictly enforced;
- all users must check in on the CBR check-in app displayed at the Club;
- names of ALL players must be listed on the booking sheet by clicking on the relevant link at time of booking. (The link is evident but if you can't find it, contact us and we will assist you);
- the clubhouse will remain closed. This means no access to kitchen and toilet facilities. Please bring your own water and, if the lack of toilet facilities could be a challenge, perhaps consider restricting your booking time to, say, one hour;
- no spectators are allowed on the courts which will be restricted to a maximum of 4 players on each court; and
- all players are to vacate the courts immediately on completion of their booking.
In addition, all court users will be asked to acknowlege the following at time of booking:
"You acknowledge that by using the tennis courts and playing tennis you will be exposed to certain risks, including the risk of physical injury. You may also be exposed to the possibility of contracting an illness, including without limitation Covid-19. Covid-19 can spread very quickly and result in serious medical complications in some people. You agree that the use of the tennis courts is at your own risk. You have read and understood this risk warning and voluntarily accept and assume the inherent risks in use/playing on the tennis courts. Guidelines have been developed to reduce the likelihood of contracting the virus while playing tennis. Before playing please review the guidelines which are available here: https://www.tennis.com.au/act/ and consider your individual situation, noting that Covid-19 can spread quickly and result in very serious medical complications in some people. Access to the Venue is provided on the basis that while at the venue you will adhere to the Guidelines."
Your committee will do all it can to ensure a safe return to tennis in these challenging times but we are depending very much on you, as the court users, to comply with all restrictions. If we can all do our part, we should be able to get back to a sport we enjoy. However, it goes without saying that the Government will be monitoring the situation - we can't afford to slip up!
Don't hesitate to get back to us at [email protected] if you have any queries.
Kind regards and stay safe
Your Committee
