Another big run from Mikeire! This is his first year competing in the 200m through school carnivals, so today was his first opportunity to race the event at Regional level.

Coming in with a previous PB of 25.98, set at Little Athletics in 2025, he dropped it all the way down to 24.63 โ€” a massive 1.35 second PB! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Not a bad way to introduce himself to the school 200m pathway. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’จ

Mikeireโ€™s final event of the day, after already competing in Long Jump โ†’ 200m โ†’ Triple Jump he went onto the 100m, with little to no rest between events.

Finished the day with another PB, improving on his previous 11.94 from ALAC in April๐Ÿ”ฅ

What a day at North Regionals for Mikeire! ๐Ÿ”ฅ

A massive day of back-to-back events.

3 new PBs and 2 North Region records๐Ÿ†

๐Ÿฅ‡ Long Jump โ€” 5.31 - (PB is 5.39) | North Region record๐Ÿ†(Previous record: 5.16m โ€” Jeremy Maranan, 2015)

๐Ÿฅ‡ 200m โ€” 24.63 New PB ๐Ÿ”ฅ
Previous PB: 25.98

๐Ÿฅ‡ Triple Jump โ€” 11.97m New PB | New North Region record๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ”ฅ
Previous PB: 11.21m
(Previous North Region record: 10.49m, Phoenix Bateman, 2018)

๐Ÿฅ‡ 100m โ€” 11.91 PB ๐Ÿ”ฅ

Long jump was actually the only event Mikeire had today that didnโ€™t clash. He had a slower start than usual, opening with a foul before finding 5.31m โ€” which was still enough to break the Boys 13 North Region record that had stood since 2015.

From there, the day became pretty hectic. ๐Ÿ˜ฎโ€๐Ÿ’จ

His remaining events all overlapped, meaning he was finishing one and having to rush straight across to the next:

200m โ†’ Triple Jump โ†’ 100m

First came the 200m, where he dropped his PB from 25.98 to 24.63 โ€” an improvement of 1.35 seconds and just 0.41s shy of the North Region record.

Then it was straight across to triple jump. With the 100m already clashing, Mikeire only had time to take ONE jump before having to move on.

That one jump was 11.97m. ๐Ÿคฏ

A 76cm PB and a new Boys 13 North Region record, breaking the previous mark of 10.49m.

Then it was straight from triple jump over to the 100m, where after everything already in his legs, he finished the day with another PB of 11.91. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

A pretty special day for him. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

A little bit of background heading into North Regionals on Thursday ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ

Mikeire will line up in the Boys 13 100m, with his current PB sitting at 11.94, run at ALAC earlier this year.

Looking back through some of the ACT results, it was interesting to see just how close some of the times are. The North Region Boys 13 record is 11.79, set by Josh Phongkhan in 2019, while School Sport ACT currently lists Sioeli Hifoโ€™s 11.54 from 2024 as the ACT Championship record, with that performance recorded in a +2.3 m/s tailwind. Prior to Hifo, Maxwell Berryโ€™s 11.99 from 2019 was the listed Championship record โ€” just 0.05 slower than Mikeireโ€™s current 11.94 PB.

Another familiar ACT name is Joshua Lobo, who ran 11.86 as an U13 at the ACT Little Athletics Championships in 2021. Both Joshua (former) and Mikeire (present) have represented Corroboree Little Athletics.

Little Athletics and School Sport use different competition and record systems, so Joshuaโ€™s time isnโ€™t part of the School Sport records above, but itโ€™s a nice bit of ACT and Corroboree sprinting history to look back on. ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿฝ

Mikeireโ€™s 11.94 wasnโ€™t run within the School Sport ACT pathway either, so it doesnโ€™t count towards those records, but it simply gives us a bit of an indication of where he currently sits heading into Thursday.

After a quieter couple of weeks while undergoing some medical checks, Mikeire has now received the all-clear, which is the most important thing. There are no big expectations heading into Thursday โ€” itโ€™ll just be good to see him healthy, back on the track, enjoying himself and seeing where heโ€™s at. ๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿพโ€โ™‚๏ธ๐Ÿ’จ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›

TRIPLE JUMP ๐Ÿฆ˜๐Ÿ”ฅ

Back in March, in just his second-ever time competing in Triple Jump, Mikeire jumped 11.03m, coming incredibly close to the 11.05m Corroboree Little Athletics age-group record missing it by just 2cm ๐Ÿค๐Ÿฝ

Fast forward a couple of months to the Summer Series, and the next time he competed in the event, he went even bigger jumping 11.21m to break the Corroboree club age-group record, while also finishing 2nd overall against older competitors! ๐Ÿ’ฅ๐Ÿ†

That performance also puts into perspective just how far heโ€™s come already. The School Sport ACT Boys 13 Triple Jump record is 11.63m, set by Marco Gjorgjievski in 2024, meaning Mikeireโ€™s current PB sits just 42cm shy of the ACT record. ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ”ฅ

Since then, Mikeire has been working hard on his technique, rhythm and phases, continuing to improve and chase even bigger distances. Considering how new he still is to Triple Jump, thereโ€™s plenty more to come. ๐Ÿฆ˜๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿ’›
