Hello fabulous mamas,

So today is Father's Day in Australia.

I know we have a really diverse community of mothers; married, divorced, separated, single, partnered, widowed.

My parents got divorced when I was a young girl and Father's Day was always a challenging day for me growing up.

Now I’m divorced my daughter usually spends this weekend with her father. I am proud of how we co-parent so she feels loved in both homes.

It was hard at first but I soak up the time to myself sleeping in, having space and catching up with friends.

So I understand Father’s Day can be an emotional day for many mums and kids, but also want to acknowledge the dads, grandfathers, uncles, friends and good men who make a difference to our kids’ lives.

Whether you are with your kids, spending time with your beloved, missing your own father or on your own today, sending you love and compassion, and wishing you a happy Sunday in whatever way suits your world.

She has written extensively on refugees, politics, terrorism, crime, court, social justice, societal and environmental upheavals, health, Schapelle Corby and the Bali Nine Australian drug smugglers, among other issues. She covered the 2015 executions of the two Bali Nine ringleaders and was a Walkley Awards finalist in 2016 for her work on terrorism in Indonesia.
