👀 Ever seen a boot cleaning machine like this?

Before and after every single shore landing in Antarctica, expedition crews send guests through these industrial cleaning stations - boots and pant hems get scrubbed by rotating rollers and blasted with water, all to stop any seeds, dirt or organisms hitching a ride between landing sites. It’s serious biosecurity, and it happens multiple times a day, every day.

Erica went through it trip after trip in her pants, on top of Patagonian wind blasts, zodiac water crossings and wading ashore. Her report back: no fading, no damage from the rollers, and dry by morning after hanging in the cabin bathroom overnight.

Nice to see gear hold up when the conditions really aren’t messing around. 🐧❄️

Patagonian wind blasts, zodiac water crossings, shore landings wading though water, industrial boot/pant cleaning machines after every shore trip.

The pants didn’t fade or get damaged by the industrial rollers of the cleaning machines and dried quickly overnight hanging in the bathroom ready for the next days adventures.

The team at Plus Outdoor are such a find. I visited them in store using their appointment system prepping for an Antarctic cruise and Patagonia hiking. They were friendly, made very helpful and considered suggestions and made me feel very comfortable.

I have now returned from my trip and wanted to review how my purchases worked for the trip.
My Arctic Cartel ski pants and Pure Lapland softshell pants kept me warm and dry through Patagonian wind blasts, zodiac water crossings. Shore landings wading though water , industrial boot/pant cleaning machines after every shore trip.

The pants didn’t fade or get damaged by the industrial rollers of the cleaning machines and dried quickly overnight hanging in the bathroom ready for the next days adventures.

My Rojo thermal shirt was stylish enough to be worn to the dining room and had lots of favourable comments as well as keeping me warm as layering when ashore.
