Thefemaleco

Thefemaleco The Female Co is a non-profit organisation that's changing the game, one woman and girl at a time.

Bridging the gap in opportunities for females living in regional and remote communities. The Female Co – Changing the Game, One Woman and Girl at a Time
Founded on the vision that where you live should not determine the opportunities available to you. The Female Co is a charity dedicated to supporting women and girls in regional, remote, and discrete communities, creating access to opportunities in sport, education, leadership, and employment. We are committed to the sustainable reduction—and eventual removal—of social and economic barriers that limit participation in sporting, educational, personal, and professional development opportunities. Beyond direct support, we advocate for change, ensuring that women and girls in the North have a voice, their achievements are celebrated, and their potential is not limited by geography. By breaking down systemic barriers and fostering an inclusive environment, we are driving real change for the next generation of female leaders—whose lived experiences and connections extend beyond metropolitan cities. Through sport, we unite women and girls from all walks of life, particularly our most vulnerable community members, connecting and empowering them to explore new people, places, perspectives, and ways of thinking. Our work promotes reconciliation, mutual respect, and inclusion by providing sporting and educational programs designed to create safe environments free from racial discrimination and exclusion. Together, we are shaping a future where location is not a limitation—but a launchpad.

It was a special night celebrating the Far North Flames Ruby North Series success, and it was wonderful to see our partnership with Far North Flames recognised, with S&C Coach Steph Shirley, Speed Coach Otis Gowa and Wellbeing Coach Sonya Barber representing The Female Co.

We were also incredibly proud to see TFC First Nations Academy athletes and sisters Layla and Grace Fatnowna invited to deliver the Acknowledgement of Country, sharing a beautiful recognition of the Traditional Owners of Gimuy and their own cultural heritage and family.

Our TFC Academy athletes Zara Imhoff and Maya Darling were also recognised on the night, making it another wonderful celebration of the women and girls we’re so proud to support.

We’re so grateful to the Far North Flames for the partnership and for such a wonderful evening celebrating women and girls in sport.

Behind every opportunity is a community of people willing to back it.

We’re so grateful to have TRUE alongside us again for 2026–27, supporting the work we do with young women across Far North Queensland.

For several years, TRUE has been an important part of our journey, contributing knowledge, education and support that adds another layer to our athletes’ development, on and off the field.

TRUE delivers wonderful interactive workshops and education about health, relationships and reproductive health for our women and girls, along with an important community health service and counselling.

Partnerships like this help us continue creating meaningful opportunities for young women to grow, learn and back themselves.

Thank you, TRUE, for believing in our work and continuing to walk alongside The Female Co and our athletes. We’re proud to have you with us for another year.

Give young women the space to challenge themselves, and you might be surprised by what they create.

Not just stronger athletes.

More confident women.
Better teammates.
Emerging leaders.
People who know they have something to contribute.

That’s what we hope to create with every group.
A space where young women can grow, challenge themselves and discover what they’re capable of.

With this year’s application period coming to a close, we’re excited to see who will be part of the next group.

Before you can improve something, you have to understand it.

That's part of why performance testing can be useful.

It gives you a snapshot of where you're at right now.

Not a label.
Not a comparison.
Just information.

Something you can use to understand what's working, where there might be room to improve, and what you might want to focus on next.

And sometimes, having that little bit of clarity can change the way you approach your training.

Find out more about the Academy and the application process on our website.

Maybe you've been thinking about it.

You've looked at the Academy.

You've read through the information.

You've thought about whether it's something you'd like to be part of.

And maybe you're still sitting on it.

That's completely okay.

Choosing your next opportunity is worth taking a little time to think about.

But if you're looking for somewhere to keep developing, learn more about yourself as an athlete, and be surrounded by people who want to see you do well, we'd love for you to take a closer look.

Applications for the 2026–27 Academy close 3 September 2026.

There’s a difference between being independent and doing everything alone.

Athletes have people around them for a reason.

Coaches.
Teammates.
Physios.
Mentors.
Family.
Friends.

Knowing who to ask, when to ask and what you need is a skill too.

You don’t have to carry everything yourself.

So, what does the Academy actually look like?

It’s more than just turning up to training.

The 2026–27 Academy brings together opportunities to connect, understand where you’re at, build a plan around your development, keep learning, and stay supported along the way.

Some parts happen together. Some are more individual. And each one has a purpose — helping you keep developing both as an athlete and as a young woman.

This is what the Academy journey looks like.

If you’ve been wondering whether the Academy could be the right next step for you, applications are open until 3 September 2026.

You can explore the full program and find out more on our website.

There’s always more to learn.

There’s always something new to understand.

Why you train a certain way.
How to look after your body.
How to prepare.
How to recover.
How to handle the highs and the tough days.

Being an athlete isn't just about what you can do physically. It's also about understanding yourself and learning how to keep improving.

That's something we really value in the Academy.

Because the more you understand, the more you can take ownership of your own development.

Applications for the 2026–27 Academy are open until 3 September 2026.
