One thing I’ve noticed in the corporate wellbeing space is that finding the right facilitator is not always easy.

There are a lot of great people out there.

But there is also a lot of vague, fluffy, or overly spiritual wellness that does not always land well in a corporate environment.

And if you are an HR manager, People and Culture lead, founder, or event organiser, that creates a bit of a problem.

You probably do not have hours to spend researching facilitators, comparing styles, checking credibility, and hoping the person you book will actually suit your team.

This is a big part of why I created Base State.

As a breathwork facilitator, and from my own experience working in high-pressure sales environments, I have seen how useful the right session can be when it is practical, professional, and matched to the people in the room.

But I have also realised that the hard part for a lot of businesses is not knowing that wellbeing matters.

It is knowing who to trust.

So I’ve put together a simple FAQ blog answering some of the common questions about Base State, corporate wellbeing workshops, facilitator matching, and how we help make the process easier.

This isn’t fluff. It’s grounded in biology.

Modern life keeps many of us indoors, under artificial light, disconnected from natural environments and permanently switched on.

Getting your feet into the sand, sunlight into your eyes, and spending time outdoors can genuinely change how the body and brain function.

Early morning sunlight contains red and infrared light, which may support mitochondrial function, circadian rhythm, mood and energy production.

Natural light exposure also helps regulate cortisol and melatonin rhythms, both important for stress, sleep and recovery.

Grounding or “earthing” is still being researched, but some studies suggest physical contact with the earth may help reduce stress and support nervous system regulation.

None of this replaces meaningful work, ambition or responsibility.

But if work stress starts becoming your entire life, it’s probably worth reconnecting with why you’re working in the first place.

Why is workplace wellness important to me?

I’m a big believer that workplace health equals company wealth.

Absenteeism

Onboarding

Low productivity

It all has a huge cost obviously

At real heart of it though, we spend the bulk of our lives at work.
There’s no reason we can’t be happy, calm and productive at the same time.

In fact the science supports this

There will always be outliers like Elon Musk that work themselves to the bone, for the bulk of us we need a more sustainable approach

This is where Base State comes in

Not only can we provide you with great wellbeing facilitators, we can give you simple modifications to the workplace that improve culture and productivity

Last night I got asked to MC for the Byron Film Festival at the launch of .movie

This was a massive honour as these were mates of mine that made it and I was not only there on the day of the accident, but held Ben’s leg while we waited for the ambulance

I’m used to getting up in from of crowds for my breathing events but this was different and to say I was sh****ng my pants would be putting it lightly

The boys have made an epic movie. I highly recommend checking it out.

While it is a skydiving movie, to some extent it’s really about recovery, both mental and physical

A subject that holds a lot of value to me

Big shout out to Patrick , who is not usually a documentary filmmaker. He really made something that you’d expect a whole team. All while facing his own personal struggles

You can tell a lot of heart went into this

Remember, if you’re going through a hard time…

It will pass

And it’s more than ok to ask for help or share what your going through

There are very high chances that someone you know has been there before

What is “Breathwork”?

Breathwork involves the intentional control of your breathing to achieve a specific outcome. There are many different types of breathwork, ranging from yogic pranayama, which focuses on controlled, slow breathing, to practices like holotropic or conscious-connected breathing that involve hyperventilation to elicit an emotional response, often with the goal of releasing stuck emotions.

Each breathwork practice has its own unique function and desired outcome. It’s crucial for any breathwork facilitator to be aware of the possible side effects, much like a doctor who understands the implications of prescribing medication.

These photos, taken by , capture a quick breathwork session I led for his group of freedivers in Bali.

It’s always a pleasure to teach breathing practices to freedivers, as they are deeply fascinated by how the breath can influence both physical and mental states.

I’m looking forward to joining Dan on his trip to Fiji in October.
I’ve heard so much about the freediving there! Super clear water, healthy coral and epic people. Especially in the area we’re going to on the outer islands.
I’m getting super excited!!

Freediver or not, do you want to learn more about how you’re breath can influence your physical & mental state?
