and for practitioners seeking depth and presence. Life transitions can arrive in many forms.

A grounded, inside-out approach to clarity, confidence, and ease. Based in Busselton, WA · sessions available locally and online. Stepping away from work, shifting direction, navigating uncertainty, or sensing that something no longer fits. I’m Steve Barrett, a life transitions and inner growth coach based in Busselton, South West WA. I work with people navigating change, offering a grounded, insi

de-out approach that supports clarity, confidence, and a growing sense of ease. With over 15 years of experience coaching individuals and leaders through change, my work is not about self-improvement or quick fixes. It’s about slowing down, reconnecting with what matters most, and accessing the inner resources already within you. Alongside this, I also work with experienced coaches and practitioners who feel drawn to deepen their presence, integrate their experience, and meet their work from a more grounded, inside-out place. I offer one-to-one coaching, both locally and online, for people navigating life transitions such as retirement, reinvention, career change, or seasons of uncertainty. If you’re exploring what’s next — personally or professionally — you’re welcome to begin with a complimentary coaching conversation.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 is getting closer.

The plans are growing.

And Silas keeps noticing things.

Small things.

Questions.

Details that might matter.

The kind of things that are easy to dismiss, especially when everyone else seems to be moving forward.

Not because anyone is wrong.

Not because anyone is careless.

Sometimes we simply aren’t sure whether what we’re seeing is important enough to bring into the conversation.

And sometimes the longer we carry something alone, the heavier it becomes.

My daughter recently sent me a photo from Monument Valley.

I immediately replied with something about the wall.

The only problem was… there wasn’t one.

Years earlier, we’d sat together on a stone wall at exactly the same place. The memory was so strong that when I looked at her photo, my mind quietly filled in what it expected to see.

When she pointed it out, I looked again. And suddenly the wall disappeared.

It made me smile, but it also made me wonder how often we do this in everyday life.

How often we see people through old stories. How often we approach situations expecting them to be the same as last time. How often we miss what’s actually in front of us because we’re looking through the lens of what came before.

Maybe that’s just part of being human.

Sometimes the most important thing isn’t looking harder.

It’s looking again.

Have you ever had a moment where you realised you weren’t seeing what was actually there?

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘰𝘧𝘵𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘰𝘯 continue…

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 is coming together.

The plans are growing. Everyone is showing up.

Yet beneath the same meeting, different experiences are unfolding.

Rowan sees progress.
Silas sees questions still needing answers.
Liora notices the weight Rowan is carrying.

Nobody is wrong. Nobody is being difficult.

They’re simply seeing the same situation through different eyes.

Sometimes what looks like alignment on the surface is still waiting for understanding underneath.

Recently at a networking group I forgot the opening line of my 30-second introduction.

One moment I knew exactly what I wanted to say. The next, it was gone. I could feel my chest tighten almost instantly. It was as though a trapdoor had opened beneath me.

A few people kindly offered support and suggested we could come back to me later. What I actually needed in that moment was probably to pause, ground myself, and reconnect.

Instead, a different part took over. The one determined to push through. The one that didn't want to look foolish. The one convinced that if I could just force my way through, everything would be fine.

So I barrelled on. Only to forget the same words again. Eventually I stumbled through and sat down feeling small, while my inner critic enthusiastically reviewed my performance.

What struck me afterwards was the irony. The support I often offer others is having them recognise when they've been swept away by a reaction and gently return to themselves. In that moment, I was the one who needed it.

A week later I stood up again. This time I didn't try to deliver a clever reflection or memorable introduction. Instead, I simply shared what had happened the week before.

How I'd forgotten my words. How a part of me had taken over. How I might have benefited from some of my own coaching.

There was nothing to remember, nothing to rehearse, and nothing to get right. And something surprising happened. People really noticed.

Not because the story was particularly remarkable, but because it was real. It reminded me how often we assume connection comes from presenting our best selves, when sometimes it arrives through allowing ourselves to be seen more honestly.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨 is getting closer. The plans are growing. And long after everyone else has gone home, Rowan is still working. Not because anyone asked him to. Not because anyone expects him to. Just because there always seems to be one more thing that could make it better.

One more idea.
One more detail.
One more improvement.

From the outside, it might look like dedication. And perhaps it is.

But sometimes the things we do best can also become the things we quietly struggle to put down.

Lately I've been reflecting on how much becomes possible in relationship.

Sometimes that happens in a one-to-one coaching conversation. Sometimes it happens in a small group where people discover they are not as alone in what they're carrying as they imagined.

The format is different, but the invitation is often the same: a chance to slow down, explore what's really happening, and see what becomes clearer when it doesn't have to be held alone.

For July, I'm again offering a complimentary coaching session for anyone curious to explore their own experience in a dedicated one-to-one space.

No agenda. No pressure. Just a conversation.

If that feels timely, you're welcome to reach out.

Last week I hosted the first Exploration Space.

It was a simple experiment built around a question that has been sitting with me for some time:

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗽𝗼𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗹𝗲 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘄𝗲 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗵𝗼𝗹𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗹𝗼𝗻𝗲?

At the beginning, people were naturally a little cautious. Most of us are when we find ourselves in a room with strangers, even a virtual one.

But something shifted as the conversation unfolded.

People shared experiences, concerns, and parts of their lives that mattered to them. What struck me was how often one person's experience resonated with another's.

Different stories. Different circumstances.

Yet underneath, there were often familiar threads.

Again and again, people discovered they were not as alone in what they were carrying as they had imagined.

One moment in particular stayed with me.

At one point I commented that we seemed to be uncovering a breadth of different concerns. The group quickly noticed something I hadn't. What looked like breadth was actually depth.

One thread leading to another.
One concern sitting beneath another.
One feeling quietly connected to the next.

And then, unexpectedly, the space turned towards me.

A story shared by someone else touched a memory. As I spoke about it, the memory arrived fully, along with the emotion that belonged to it.

For a few moments, the group I had been holding, was now holding me.

I left with a deep sense that the original question had been answered.

Something becomes possible when we don't have to hold things alone.

This was our first exploration and I'm curious to see what unfolds from here.

If this idea resonates with you, there are already plans forming for another small online Exploration Space in the near future.

𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘚𝘰𝘧𝘵𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘥𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘰𝘯 continue…

This week, Rowan, Silas and Liora come back together to continue planning 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨.

On the surface, things seem smoother:
“Yep, sounds good.”
“I can help with that.”
“We’re making progress.”

But underneath:
Rowan feels reassured by movement,
Silas still carries quiet concerns,
Liora senses something unsettled between them.

Nobody is trying to misunderstand each other.

They’re simply carrying different inner experiences of the same conversation.

I think many of us know moments like that.

Sometimes the most meaningful moments aren’t planned.

This week we made a spontaneous day trip to Perth to watch my son complete the HBF Run for a Reason half marathon.

There and back in a day. A lot of driving for a relatively short amount of time together. And yet, we knew the distance and effort involved didn’t matter at all.

What stayed with us was simply being there to witness something important to him. The commitment, preparation, and effort leading up to the event, and then completing it within his targeted time. Congratulations Matt. A huge achievement.

Sometimes life’s richness isn’t found in productivity or achievement at all.

Sometimes it’s simply connection. Presence. Time together.

Last week in Wilderton, Rowan, Liora and Silas gathered to plan a community event simply known as 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘎𝘢𝘵𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘪𝘯𝘨.

This week, the meeting is over…

…but not really.

Each of them walks home carrying something different:

▪Rowan keeps working,
▪Silas keeps thinking,
▪Liora keeps feeling what sits between everyone.

I think that’s part of being human.

The conversations underneath the conversation often continue long after we leave the room.
