Embellyment: Mission Statement and T&Cs
Our Mission
At Embellyment, we do our utmost to teach and perform bellydance* in a way that honours the cultures and traditions from which it is derived. We are committed to teaching bellydance in a way that promotes the physical and emotional wellbeing of our students. We aim to provide a fun, safe, respectful space for our students to embrace their bodies
through movement and to dance without fear of judgment. Our classes are open to people of all shapes, sizes, ethnicities, religions, political views, gender expression, sexuality, and beyond. While none of our teachers have Middle Eastern, North African, Hellenic (Greek) and Turkish (MENAHT) heritage, we have trained as much as possible with MENAHT dancers from around the world. We continue to further our dance education in this space, and take pride in promoting the classes and performances of MENAHT dancers in Australia and beyond.
*Please note that ‘bellydance’ is a Western-derived, umbrella term for MENAHT dances and is not a traditional word. Terms and Conditions
Terms and class structure
Our classes mostly run during Queensland school terms, making up four blocks of 10 classes each over the year. During show season or other busy periods, we may have extra class times available for rehearsal. All classes include dedicated warm-up and cool-down sections. Please be sure to arrive on time for the warm-up and stay for the cool-down to avoid injury and get the most from class. Enrolment, drop-in policy, and cancellation
We encourage students to sign up for a full term, particularly if they are new to bellydance - this is not compulsory, but it will help you to get the most out of your dance experience! We also offer a discount for students who choose to pay up front for an entire term. Drop-ins are mostly welcome for students who are beginner level, or beyond beginner level (ie, have more than one term of dance experience). However, this does not extend to advanced choreography classes. During show preparation, we reserve the right to close classes to drop-ins to focus on rehearsal. Please enquire about which class is right for you. Classes are subject to minimum numbers to offset the cost of studio hire. If you are unable to attend a class due to illness or injury, please let us know in advance via phone, email, or in the class group chat. Copyright and choreography
Copyright of choreography and class content is held by Embellyment and our teachers. Please do not record, share, reproduce, or teach our dances without asking the explicit permission of our teachers (and the other dancers present if they will be seen in any recorded content). Health and safety information
Dancing is a great form of exercise and a good workout for the brain, too. However, Embellyment instructors are not medical professionals, and we cannot take responsibility for your health or fitness. If you have pre-existing injuries, health conditions, or are pregnant, please consult your doctor or another medical or allied health professional for advice about whether this form of exercise is right for you. If you are new to bellydance, listen to your body and don’t push yourself outside your normal range of motion – take it at your own pace. If you experience any acute pain during class, stop immediately and let the teacher know. WAIVER: By enrolling in a bellydance class at Embellyment, you understand that there are risks associated with this form of exercise and assume those risks. Embellyment instructors will not be held responsible for physical or property damage, or any other losses or injuries that may result from your participation in our classes. What to bring
Please wear comfortable clothing to class – workout or yoga gear is ideal, or anything that allows you to move freely. Be sure to bring a water bottle and drink plenty of water during and after class. Code of conduct
When signing up for our classes, you agree to adhere to our ethos of providing a fun, safe, and respectful space for other students to embrace their bodies through movement and to dance without fear of judgment. For the physical and mental safety of our students, we will not tolerate disrespectful, racist, sexist, or any other forms of bad behaviour. Other considerations
We do not offer childcare services. Children who are brought to class are the responsibility of their adult/s. Please consider others if bringing your children with you to class.
