Three years in the making. Three years of absolute warfare on the turf. For the THIRD YEAR IN A ROW, South Burnie takes on Queechy in the GNLW Grand Final! ⚡🏑

We’ve gone back and forth all season long, pushing each other to the absolute limit. Every contest has been a battle, every pass a statement, but it all comes down to THIS SATURDAY. No second chances, no holding back just 60 minutes to leave everything on the pitch and bring that silverware home!

We need every single South Burnie supporter in full voice. Get loud, wear the maroon with pride, and let’s fill the stands! 🔴⚪🔵

It's been a long time building to this one! 💪♥️ Congratulations to Brady Cairns and our awesome bunch of U16s for bringing home the 2026 premiership! They've had a great year and this is very well deserved ♥️

We would also like to thank Smithton U16s team for the great battles we have had this year, it's been great to see the talent of hockey we have spread across the coast and the future is looking bright!

Again a huge thanks to all officials for the junior finals last night, a big thanks to Hockey Tasmania - North West Competitions for another successful season 👍

Massive thanks to the entire McKenna Park team for hosting last night's finals, you all do an amazing job and it's very appreciated ♥️

And last but not least thanks very much for all of our supporters who came along last night to cheer our kids on ♥️

Happy Friday to everyone and welcome to a massive weekend of hockey! With two grand finals and two preliminary finals being played it’s set to be an extremely exciting weekend for our club.

Unfortunately, with games being played from Smithton through to Launceston, our teams won’t have the full spectator support they deserve. Regardless of whether we are cheering you on from the sidelines or from afar, you have the whole club behind you, and we will be keeping up to date with your games. ❤️

First up tonight is Brady and his under 16’s team in the Grand final against Smithton at 7.30pm at McKenna Park! In their last encounter Smithton were able to secure the win after the game came down to shoot outs. Tonight, we will have a full-strength team, which we are hoping will give us a slight edge in what has been a remarkably close battle between these two talented teams this season. If they are successful, it will be the first time the U/16’s have won a premiership since 2009, before most of the team were even born!
Please come along and support them in what should be a great game to watch.
All the best kids, play your game, ignore the outside noise and enjoy what will be the last junior game for many of you. 💪❤️

Next is our Div 1 women taking on Launceston city at 11am in Burnie. Mel and her team are looking for a win which will put them into the grand final next week against Queechy. Our two previous matches against Launceston City have been close games with a nil all draw and a 3-2 win. Last week the game against top of the table Queechy was very close with it coming down to shoot outs, with the return of Mel and Claire our full-strength team will have a great chance of getting the win. Head up to McKenna Park to cheer them on if you can.
Good luck ladies, continue to play as well as you have been, and you will get it done. 💪

Saturday Afternoon our Div 1 men will head to Launceston to take on Queechy at 1pm. If they can secure a win, they will play Baptist in the grand final next week which will be their third grand final in a row!
The men have had mixed results against Queechy this year, with a 3 all draw earlier in the season, and a 7-1 loss recently. After the shock of the big loss to Queechy last time, a great win against Smithton last week and with a full-strength team, our men are looking to turn the tables and get their first win over Queechy this year.
Good luck to Nathan and his men, if you stick to your game play, you should get the win. 💪

Last up is the very exciting Grand final between our Div 2 women and Smithton. Our girls will head down to Smithton Saturday at 3.30pm for their last game of the season.
In their 3 previous games, they have had a 1 all draw, a 3-2 win and a 0-1 loss. This will be the first time this year that the girls will play Smithton with a full-strength team. Even though a few of the team will have already played in a final that day and Smithton being fresh and ready to go, our girls still have an excellent chance of bringing home the cup.

This match is extra special, if they do win it will possibly be our clubs first three-peat in over 30 years, if ever!
Good luck to Alanna and her girls, with this being your 4th grand final in a row, we are all immensely proud of you and know you can make it 3 in a row. ❤️

Good luck to all players, coaches, team managers, officials involved across the next couple of days, looking forward to seeing the sidelines full of Hawks supporters and some awesome hockey being played.

What a weekend of hockey we just experienced!

Starting things off Friday night was Brady and his U16’s team in their preliminary final against West Devonport, the winner to go on and face Smithton in the Grand final.
West would score first and put the Hawkers on the back foot as both teams were keen to get whatever edge they could on each other. The team worked their way back into the contest and things were levelled up with a nice goal from Zeppelin Barnard. This seemed to give the rest of the team a nice boost of confidence and they started putting together some great passages of play. Another 3 goals by Zeppelin would see them run out winners and advance to the Grand final. A great team give with everyone giving their all and playing some awesome team hockey! Well done team, one to go!
Final Score 4-1 win

Saturday action
Both GNL teams were at each end of the coast, Women in Launnie and Men in Smithton.

12pm the men pushed back and were hoping for a better performance than last time they played Smithton. With a stronger looking team from that last game the Hawks came out hard and were keen to get back to their best. Hayden Davey would score a nice goal to draw first blood and the score would stay that way for some time. Both teams playing hard and trying to break the other but it was a tight tussle. Hayden Davey would score his second for the match to put his team 2-0 up and give them a little breathing space. Smithton wouldn’t go away and would score from a PC late in the game to bring it back to 2-1 Hawks up. Time would then beat Smithton and our blokes took the victory to advance to a preliminary final against Queechy next Saturday, great job men!
Final score 2-1 win

Meanwhile up in Launnie our women pushed back at 12.30pm in some warm conditions against Queechy who haven’t been beaten all season with a record of 14 wins and 4 draws. Our ladies were just as strong with their regular season being 13 wins, 4 draws and only 1 loss, so these were clearly the strongest two teams all year and this was set-up to be a cracking game.
Queechy scored the first goal to gain the advantage, the ladies would score one back by Caitlin King to level things up. Queechy had a lot of PC opportunities but Min and our defence were strong all game and kept them out well. Queechy scored again and then one to Meah Poke would see the score at 2-2 and that would be the score at the end of the game and they were off to shootouts.
Our five attackers to put their hand up and take on the challenge were Layla, Darcie, Meah, Caitlyn and Ella. It was a close one with goals from Darcie and Caitlyn from the Hawks but Queechy would put through 3 of theirs to take the win. A great effort again by all of you young ladies! Looking forward to seeing you get the win next week to go into another Grand final.

Sunday action
Louise and her Div 3 women came up against City Marians at 10am in the Grand Final. They had only beaten City once all season but finals are a different game and things can go either way.
Both teams had some good chances but the backlines were very solid all game and scoring was hard to come by. The deadlock was finally broken when Maggie would knock a goal in to get the ladies up and about with a 1-0 lead. Things started getting tense and City would level things up late in the game. Neither team would score again and as time ran out we were off to shoot outs again!
The 5 brave ladies to take on the challenge were Annabel, Mia, Talia, Maggie and Kaitlyn and we had Somma in goals. These shootouts are always a tense way to finish and this one was no different, our ladies gave their all but it was City who would take the win. Congratulations City Marians.
Well done on a fantastic season to our Hawkers, it’s been great seeing the improvement of the team with a great mix of experience helping a lot of our younger ones coming through the ranks! Well done to Talia Ebert who was named best player in the final and runner up in the association best & fairest count. You should all be very proud of your seasons and we can’t wait to see you all back out their again in 2027!

Wrapping things up we had our Div 2 women against City in a preliminary final with the winner to meet Smithton in the grand final next weekend.
Our ladies hadn’t beaten City all season as they had 1 draw and the 3 losses, today’s team was at full strength which set things up for a cracking game.
Both teams didn’t disappoint the great crowd who came along as they put on a ripping contest with both teams playing well and creating good opportunities. First to score were our Hawks with a nice goal by Darcie in the last quarter to go 1-0 up. Some smart team hockey and some cool heads would make sure we weren’t going to another shootouts and the final siren would sound to see our ladies advance to their fourth grand final in a row. What an awesome effort ladies you should all be extremely proud and we can’t wait to watch you play next weekend as you aim for the hat-trick of premierships!
Final score 1-0 win.

Well done to all players, coaches, managers on a very successful weekend. Thanks to all the supporters for coming along and cheering for our Hawks and a huge thanks to the complexes for hosting our teams, Smithton, Northern Hockey Centre & McKenna Park.

Happy Friday to you all.

The sun is shining, birds are singing and finals time is well and truly here. What an exciting weekend we have ahead of us with 5 of our teams playing in finals.

If you are free tonight, head to McKenna Park at 7.30pm and support our 16’s who take on West Devonport in their Preliminary final. In their 3 previous encounters they have had a 6-1 win, a 2 all draw and a 3-2 win, the winner tonight will head into the grand final against Smithton, for the losing team the season will be over.
Quite a few of the team is aging out this year so a Grand final appearance and a chance at a premiership will be an awesome way for them to finish their junior careers. Good luck guys, bring your skills and determination but most importantly, have fun. We will be cheering loudly for you all. 💪

On Saturday, unfortunately, our GNL teams will be on opposite ends of the coast, making it impossible to be there supporting both teams, we may not all be there in person, but we will still be supporting you from afar.

Our GNL men are first up taking on Smithton in Smithton at 12 noon in the semifinal, the losing team will see their season over for 2026 and the winner lives to play the preliminary final! In their 2 games against Smithton this year our men have had a 4 all draw and a 2-5 loss. Good luck guys, if you stick to your usual game style, give it 100% and leave any frustrations off the field, you will win this. Get it done. 💪

Our GNL women have a repeat of last week, playing Queechy at 12.30pm in Launceston, the winning team will head straight into the Grand final, the losing team will play the winner of the Launceston City and City Marians game. All 3 previous games this year against Queechy have been very close with a 1 all draw, a 1-2 loss and a 1 all draw. All the best ladies, you are due for a win against Queechy, we know you can do it and we will all be cheering you on. 💪

On Sunday at 10am we have our most exciting game of the weekend, the div 3 women play City Marians in the Grand Final. Our ladies have taken on City a total of 7 times this season with mixed results, a win, a draw and 5 losses. If you are free, please come along and show your support. Good luck ladies, you’ve got this.💪

The final game of the week is the Div 2 women, they play City Marians at 12 noon on Sunday in the preliminary final, the winner will go into the grand final next week against Smithton. The Div 2 women have played City 4 times this year with 1 draw and 3 losses. While they may not have a win on board against City, the games are always very even and our ladies are very capable of winning on Sunday. This would see them in the grand final for the fourth year in a row and a chance to get a three-peat! Good luck Ladies. 💪

Tomorrow at McKenna Park is our major fundraising event in our Hockey calendar year.

This is always a special day as we continue to raise funds to help those in our community who are faced with the cancer battle. ❤️

The funds we make on this day go towards assisting those in need and it's the South Burnie Hockey Club's way of spreading the love and hopefully making a little difference in people's lives. ❤️

Every year we make substantial donations to the North West Cancer centre as well as to our hockey members and families who are facing the battle. ❤️

The generosity in the community each year blows us away and we are forever grateful for all donations we receive no matter the size. ❤️

We are looking forward to another huge day tomorrow.

If you are in the area feel free to drop in for some delicious home baked goodies on our stall, something from our BBQ or buy some raffle tickets with a great prize list.

🏑 Round 14 | Upcoming Fixtures 🏑

Another big weekend of hockey ahead for the Eagles! 🦅

Our GNL Women and GNL Men head south to Launceston this Saturday for the GNL Gala Day, taking on West Devonport in a huge day of hockey.

The Under 13s, Under 16s and Div 3 Women all enjoy a well-earned bye, while our senior divisions look to continue their strong form at home.
