Bicycle Queensland what on earth? “We’ve got to stop the sale”…. from the association that’s meant to represent the bike industry.
It’s one thing to “stop the sale.” It’s another thing entirely to work with the industry that knows it best.
Here’s the facts:
* To date, QLD has leaned on a single industry body with an obvious bias and no engineering, design, manufacturing or import-compliance background in these devices
* Continuous power does not constitute a motor’s theoretical manufacturer peak output rating, they are two completely different measurements and the law treats them as one
Now the positive and it’s a big one:
TMR is actively in discussion with Ampd Bros to develop a pathway forward for Queenslanders who want to make their old devices legal. That is exactly how this should work, the regulator sitting down with the people who actually engineer and build these things. Which is the whole point. Shutting down sales was never an answer. Building a compliance pathway is.
Get illegal devices off the street? 100%. But get the engineers in the room to write the standard.
