Big news today for the Formula Ford Australia crews, but for Queensland State Championship racing we are all Motorsport Australia year in year out, and almost all active competitors in Queensland use the Kent-engine specification. The Kent cars go by the category name Formula Ford 1600.

Coming up at Queensland Raceway on September 19 and 20, all the open wheel and sports car action will be gathered at the one event, come out for a look.

The AASA has copped yet another hit, with the Australian Formula Ford Championship becoming the latest category to defect effective immediately.

Thinking formula cars could be the way to go? Formula Ford 1600 is the popular Formula Ford of choice in Queensland, using the original series Kent engine, one of the simplest engines in circuit racing they don't even worry about running an alternator!

Each year the FF1600 cars have a one race meeting Nationals to compliment all the State Championships, and this year that will be at SMP. Because the Historic cars use the same engine and are effectively the same category but in a preserved state, they can join in the fun as well.

2026 Australian Formula Ford 1600 Nationals are just around the corner!! Time to get organised.

The 2026 Nationals will be run at the HSRCA Summer Festival at SMSP over 3 days, from Friday 27th to Sunday 29th November.

The Nationals, as in recent years, will see a mixed grid of both Formula Ford 1600 and Historic Formula Ford for all sessions.

The 2025 AFF1600 Nationals at Mallala was a great event, with close racing throughout the field, with a solid mix of FF1600 and Historic Formula Ford cars.

Whilst the final schedule has not been finalised we are expecting the following:
Friday: minimum of 2 x 15 minute practice sessions, 1 x 15 minute Qualifying session,
Saturday and Sunday: 4 heats (17min, expect 8 lap) and a Final (23min, expect 12 lap)

Trophies will be awarded for places in the Final for Formula Ford 1600 and Historic Formula.

In addition, the Analogue Trophy will be awarded for Formula Ford 1600s, being irrespective of the car’s year of build or level of modifications over time or the age of the driver, the only requirement is that after inspection the car is confirmed as having no data logging assistance for the driver and solely analogue displays for engine parameters.

Entry fee will be in the range of $670/vehicle and a pit lane 2 car Garage around $420. This is an estimate and will be confirmed closer to the event.

It is planned for the Event to be covered by Blendline TV, including the Formula Ford races.

We are now almost 3 months out from the 2026 Nationals and its time to lock in your accommodation, if you have not already done so. There are great accommodation options close to the track, including directly across the road at Alpha Hotel Eastern Creek.

Wings and slicks racing cars gets its marquee event of the year at Queensland Raceway on September 19 and 20. Join Australian Formula Open for the Errol Gilmour Memorial Cup round of the national championship for a great two days in the North.

Calendars at the ready, "THE BIG ONE" is coming! September 19 & 20.

Our year is finishing up with Round 5 The Big One at Queensland Raceway and Round 6 Grand Final at Morgan Park.

Why "The Big One" this September at QR?

It’s a packed schedule of MA State Championship categories, combined with visitors, the Australian Formula Open series for wings and slicks racing cars, and the Australian Racing Drivers' Club are bringing to us the third round of the Australian Production Car Endurance Series as well.

Time to get your 2B, 2F or 5S logbooked sports car prep'd and ready to join the QRDA's efforts to draw people's attention to state racing and the Production Sports Car Racing Association of Queensland as they help get more competitors into or back with ProdSports.

More news coming from Production Sports Car Racing Association of Queensland with more cars returning to the track.

We're all going racing this weekend at Queensland Raceway on the Saturday only, while competitors have the option to do practice on Friday and Sprints on Sunday... what a weekend of options for Queensland motor racers.

So this Saturday Queensland Prodsports heads to Queensland Raceway for Round 4 2026.
Initial entry list shows a number of returning members with a good mix of Porsches and MX5s, the stunning Cobra of Matt Allsop plus its fantastic to see 3 Ginetta's joining the field.
No doubt Steve McFadden will be towards the front in the always fast 991 Cup car,with Sparks and Wilson( welcome back mate) in hot pursuit.

Also welcoming back Paul Gregory and Tony Ross,Chris Battista and John English.
Mark Cotterell is also entered and we are still hoping to confirm others including Sven Koremans.

The one day qualifying and 3 race format is sure to keep competitors busy with 2 x 10 laps and the last race of 12 laps.
We look forward to seeing as many members as possible this weekend, but also invite interested new people to come along and see what makes prodsports cars so inviting to get into.

Matt knows what week it is 🎉 time to head to Morgan Park Raceway

Round 3 this weekend.

After a really solid start to the year, including a class podium at the Bathurst 6 Hour and a round win in Round 2, we’re heading into this one feeling confident and focused.

The work is done, now it’s about staying sharp, forcing a few mistakes, maximising opportunities, and making the most of the weekend.

A huge thanks again to Penrite Oil for their continued support of our racing program. I'm proud to continue representing a brand with such a strong history in Australia.

Looking forward to getting back behind the wheel.

Each of the Sports Car and Single Seater Racing Car categories have had a big injection of technology and evolution in nearly four decades.

Fortunately Sports & Racing hasn't had the massive expansion of competing categories Touring Car racing deals with.

🤯 three plus decades of change in Queensland has not left state circuit racing out.

Late 80's ~ Events made up the track schedules and often featured different combinations of categories in each event and a mix of status; scratch race, championship race or part of a series.

A notable race group were Street Sedans, with a few local APCC Production Cars and some historic Appendix J cars.

Since 2000 ~ Reflecting Supercars and other high end categories, local State Championship racers more and more wanted each race of a weekend to count towards championships, with scratch races having been virtually absent for a decade or more now.

Gone are the days of Division 1 and Division 2 Sports Sedans based on lap times, multiple categories now provide for the competitors who in the 80's would have had one clear choice.
