Jason Guest's 2015 Smiddy Challenge

Jason Guest's 2015 Smiddy Challenge This is my page to document the lead up training and actual taking part in the 2015 Bottlemart Smiddy Challenge - to help raise funds for cancer research.

I have committed to the 2015 Bottlemart Smiddy Challenge. I will be taking part in a gruelling eight day, 1600km adventure that will see me cycle from Brisbane to Townsville — all to help fund a cure for cancer. Why am I taking on this incredible journey? Too many good people have fallen and continue to fall to cancer! Did you know that 1 in 2 Australian men and 1 in 3 Australian women will be dia

gnosed with cancer by the age of 85. This is a scary statistic! ( http://www.cancer.org.au/about-cancer/what-is-cancer/facts-and-figures.html )

I know too many people who have battled this dreadful disease and lost; and thankfully there have been a few who are now in remission. This is my small way to remember my friends and help raise funds. As part of the Smiling for Smiddy peloton I will be using my passion for cycling to raise money to fight this devastating disease. More than $5 million has been raised since 2006 but there is still more to do and I need your help to do it. Please dig deep for this important cause.

Bags has been packed, bike serviced and the orange tyres put on the bike! Haven't had the best of preparations over the last few weeks with moving house twice and having been sick since Monday. Will make the tough ride a lot tougher now! (Although not as tough as what those people who are fighting cancer have to go through)

Thanks to everyone who has supported me over the last 9 months. I'll hopefully manage to post updates each night.

There is still time for people to donate. Please visit https://secure.artezpacific.com/registrant/FundraisingPage.aspx?registrationID=839797&langPref=en-CA #&panel1-1

Thanks Jason

Wednesday Smiddy loop with a difference. Huge numbers were there to ride in memory of Maria Smiddy who passed away over the weekend from an aggressive pancreatic cancer. I wasn't lucky enough to meet Maria - from the stories I have heard its like I have known Maria for years. You will be missed. RIP Maria.

This morning I rode 63 kms in 2 hours 18 minutes.

Crazy weather today, photo taken just before leaving work. Rain is pelting down. Made it to Kedron after having to turn around at Shaw Road and a couple of other roads due to flooding. Going to spend some quality time with Fay and Len (parent in laws) for the night.

Up early this morning to ride to UQ to wave goodbye to the Noosa Smiddy participants as they left for their 4 day trip. Good luck to all.

It was colder again this morning than yesterday. Afterwards I rode up the Mt Cootha anti-clockwise and rode up the front side of Mt Cootha twice. The view was spectacular and I thought it was warmer up there. :)
