The Barclay Cup is more than a tournament—it’s a celebration of women’s baseball, held in honour of trailblazer Jacinda Barclay.

A national competition that encourages participation, player development and opens pathways for our female athletes, our Queensland athletes soak up every opportunity to hone their skills and develop as whole athletes.

2025 Assistant Coach, Bella Pickford said,

“They leaned into learning—every drill, every talk, every challenge. Their willingness to try new things and back their teammates made the biggest difference. They’ll take these tools into club ball and come back even better.”

This year we're off to Melbourne as the event continues to grow, providing young players with valuable opportunities to compete against the best emerging female baseball talent from around Australia.

🎉 Volunteer of the Month – Sarah Nielsen 🎉

Baseball Queensland is proud to recognise Sarah Nielsen as our Volunteer of the Month of April.

As the Taipans Junior Coordinator, Sarah is a familiar face around the club and someone who is always willing to help wherever she can. Whether it's answering questions, supporting families, organising programs or lending a hand behind the scenes, Sarah is the kind of volunteer every club dreams of having.

Known for her bubbly personality and signature red tutu, Sarah brings energy, positivity and enthusiasm to everything she does. She is always approachable, always willing to listen and, if she doesn't know the answer, she'll make sure she finds it.

More importantly, Sarah is a doer. She is often the first person to put her hand up when help is needed and consistently goes above and beyond to ensure players, families and fellow volunteers have a great experience at the ballpark.

Volunteers like Sarah are the heart of our baseball community, and her dedication to supporting junior baseball is making a real difference for the next generation of players.

Congratulations, Sarah, and thank you for everything you do for baseball in Queensland! 👏⚾❤️

Do you know a volunteer who deserves a shout out? Let us know by nominating them for our monthly awards. 👇🏼

What a week for Little League at the 2026 National Championships.

Our players showed incredible resilience, determination and sportsmanship throughout the tournament, competing against some of the best Little League teams from around Australia.

There were plenty of highlights along the way, including:
🔥 A thrilling opening game against Central Firebirds.
🔥 A crucial 6-0 shutout victory over Canberra Rangers.
🔥 Strong performances against Ryde Red and Cronulla Black.
🔥 An 11-0 win over NT Buffaloes, highlighted by Averey Griffin's two-home-run, five-RBI performance.
🔥 A dominant 10-0 consolation victory over Melbourne Athletics to finish the tournament.

The final game belonged to Evan Grobler, who delivered one of the performances of the tournament:
⚾ 5.0 innings pitched
⚾ 0 hits allowed
⚾ 0 walks
⚾ 14 strikeouts (new tournament record)

The 11-year-old finished the week with an incredible 27 strikeouts in just 9.2 innings and also added an inside-the-park home run in the final game.

A huge congratulations to all players, coaches, officials and families who represented Brisbane North with pride throughout the week. The effort, growth and team spirit on display were outstanding, and we can't wait to see what the future holds for this talented group.

It's not done until it's done

Little League Nationals campaign has come to an end, with the team finishing on a high after a thrilling 5-4 extra-innings win over Cronulla Black in the consolation game.

After building a 4-0 lead, Metro showed great composure when Cronulla fought back to tie the game in the sixth. Toby Sheeran delivered the game-winning RBI in extra innings before Ari Holmstrom closed the door on the mound.

Across the tournament, Metro recorded impressive wins over Melbourne Athletics, Northern Territory and Ryde Black, while pushing eventual finalists Adelaide Marlins and Melbourne Rangers in a series of tightly contested games.

The team showcased outstanding resilience, depth and sportsmanship throughout the week, with standout performances coming from right across the roster both on the mound and at the plate.

Congratulations to all players, coaches and families on a fantastic championship campaign. Queensland is proud of you!

Introducing your Brisbane North Baseball Little Leaguers!

Day 1 is in the books and it's safe to say the score board does not reflect the incredible baseball that this team played.

A double header to kick things off, North went in hard with fierce pitching battle led by Evan Grobler. With 10 strikeouts to his name, you would think that would be enough to give his team the edge. Alas, the lead changed back and forward until the Firebirds finally claimed the win.

Hits: T. Lyall, E. Grobler, J. Young, C. Black, A. Griffin
RBI: T. Lyall (2)

Pitching:
-Evan Grobler: 3.2 IP, 1 H, 3 R, 2 ER, 2 BB, 10 K
– Porter Cox: 0.1 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 0 K
– Taylor Lyall: 1.1 IP, 0 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
– James Young: 0.2 IP, 2 H, 1 R, 1 ER, 0 BB, 1 K

No time to rest.

They backed this effort up with a 13 hit game against the Melbourne Rangers, going down 12-6.

Hits (13): P. Cox, H. Lokeni (2), T. Lyall, T. Hession, A. Gaskell, M. Fogg (3), A. Griffin (3), C. Black
RBI: M. Fogg (2), A. Griffin

Pitching:
– Harper Lokeni: 2.2 IP, 2 H, 5 R, 2 ER, 1 BB, 6 K
– Avery Griffin: 2.0 IP, 2 H, 2 R, 1 ER, 3 BB, 4 K
– Matthew Fogg: 1.0 IP, 5 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 1 BB, 2 K
