🔪 **YOU DON'T HAVE TO SEE THE KNIFE FOR THE THREAT TO ALREADY BE DEVELOPING.**
Recent figures from Queensland's **Jack's Law** operations provide an important reminder about weapons in public places.
Police have reportedly conducted almost **200,000 wand scans**, resulting in **1,439 weapons being seized**.
But here's the important part for everyday people:
**Self-defence shouldn't start when the weapon appears.**
It starts with recognising when a situation is changing.
⚠️ Someone aggressively closing the distance
⚠️ Threatening or escalating language
⚠️ Someone trying to corner or isolate you
⚠️ A sudden change in body language
⚠️ Hands repeatedly moving toward pockets or the waistband
⚠️ Someone becoming unusually focused on you
None of these automatically means somebody has a weapon.
But they can be warning signs telling you:
**PAY ATTENTION. CREATE DISTANCE. MAKE A DECISION EARLY.**
If a weapon does appear, the situation becomes extremely serious.
Your priorities should be:
↔️ **DISTANCE** — create space where possible.
🚧 **BARRIERS** — put something between you and the threat if available.
🏃 **ESCAPE** — don't stay and fight when you can safely get away.
👨👩👧 **PROTECT OTHERS** — especially children or family members with you.
📞 **GET HELP** — contact police as soon as it's safe.
And when there is **no safe opportunity to escape**, having practical self-defence training may give you more options.
At **United Krav Maga–IKMF**, we don't teach people to go looking for fights.
We teach everyday people to **recognise danger, make decisions under pressure, avoid unnecessary confrontation and develop practical skills for situations they couldn't avoid.**
**SELF-PROTECTION ISN'T PARANOIA.
IT'S PREPARATION.**
🥊 **TRAIN SMART. STAY AWARE. PROTECT WHAT MATTERS MOST.**
Practical self-defence is a skill that can be learned.
