Experience will be important when the PNG Chiefs enter the NRL in 2028, but the club can’t become a destination for players looking for one final contract.

The Chiefs need to build a squad around:

🏉 Players entering their prime

🧠 Experienced leaders who raise professional standards

Big-name signings can help build the club, but every signing needs to contribute to the long-term future of the PNG Chiefs.

PNG PLAYERS HAVE TO BE READY 🇵🇬🔥

More opportunities are coming for Papua New Guinean rugby league players, but getting the chance is only part of the equation.

To earn a place with the PNG Chiefs or any NRL club, players will need to meet the standards of professional rugby league every day.

That means discipline, work ethic, commitment and consistency.

The pathway is becoming clearer. Now the focus has to be on preparing the next generation to take advantage of it.

PNG can learn from successful NRL development pathways — but our system needs to be built for Papua New Guinea.

Our players, communities, facilities and challenges are different.

The goal shouldn’t be to copy Australia.

Build a pathway that works for PNG and produces NRL-ready players.

LUAI IN PNG AFTER THE TIGERS LOSS

Jarome Luai was in Port Moresby shortly after the Tigers’ loss to the Cowboys and it’s got people talking.

For me, I don’t see the issue.

Modern professional athletes have commitments, partnerships and lives outside of footy. If Luai is meeting his responsibilities to the Tigers, then flying to PNG shouldn’t automatically be seen as a problem.

We see this regularly in sports like the NBA.
