Gi or No-Gi? It’s one of the first questions you’ll hear when you discover Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, but the difference is simpler than it sounds.

In Gi, the uniform becomes part of the game. You can use grips on the jacket and pants to control movement and create opportunities. In No-Gi, those grips disappear, so you’ll rely more directly on body control, movement and positioning.

Different pace. Different possibilities. Same foundation.

And if you’re completely new, you don’t need to decide which one is “better” before starting. Try them, learn the fundamentals and discover which style you enjoy most — you might end up loving both.

A belt can show someone’s rank, but it can’t show you everything it took to get there.

It doesn’t show the first class when nothing made sense. The hundreds of times they tapped. The frustrating nights. The breakthroughs. The friendships. The days they almost stayed home but trained anyway.

That’s why every colour means something.

That medal didn’t come from a shop.

It came from showing up — to training, to competition, to every moment where giving up would have been easier.

But look at the faces around it. Three kids who watched someone they look up to hold that medal — and quietly filed it away as proof of what’s possible for them too.

That’s the part that doesn’t show up in results tables. The moment a child sees achievement up close and thinks “one day, that’s me.”
