Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron

Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron FAMILY | FRIENDSHIP | SAILING - Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron located on the Mornington Peninsula There are currently about 1,300 members.

Blairgowrie Yacht Squadron, a little over an hour's drive from Melbourne on the shores of Port Phillip, welcomes those who wish to enjoy the beauty of our southern waters and ideal conditions for sailing, whether racing or cruising. Originally very much a holiday club, Blairgowrie now has a strong membership among Penninsula residents. In recent years many yacht clubs have struggled to maintain me

mbers. But Blairgowrie, through strong promotion and flexible fee structures, has shown good membership growth during the last three years. Family participation is encouraged in the club, and new members are always made welcome. The clubs' junior sail training programs are recognised as among the best in Australia. Facilities for off the beach boats, keelboats, racing catamarans and trailable yachts are excellent. The Safe Boat Harbour includes a slipway and overhead gantry. Blairgowrie has a very active boating program which caters to a broad spectrum of interests. The club has earned an outstanding reputation for its professional conduct of State, National and World Sailing Championships.

The BYS Finn fleet continues to grow, with sailors putting in plenty of hard work, with regular training sessions taking place each weekend.

As part of our lead-up to the Finn Mid Winters at RQYS later this month, we'll be hosting a mini regatta on 4–5 July. It's a fantastic opportunity for Finn sailors to sharpen their skills, get some race practice, and connect with the fleet. Registration details will be available soon.

Thinking about getting into Finn sailing? There's never been a better time to join the BYS fleet. The class offers competitive racing, a supportive sailing community, and plenty of opportunities to develop your skills. We've also noticed several great boats currently for sale on the Finn page, making now an ideal time to get involved.

Come and see what Finn sailing at BYS is all about!

Not all lessons happen in the classroom.

Participants in today's Powerboat Handling course were treated to an unforgettable sight when a whale surfaced nearby in Sorrento Channel.

It was a fantastic reminder that safe boating also means respecting marine wildlife. If a whale approaches your vessel, slow down, keep a safe distance, and allow it to pass by undisturbed.

Powerboat Handling courses teach the safe and responsible operation of powerboats with qualified instructors. This group just happened to get a very special guest appearance along the way.

A shout out to BYS sailor Wayne Bates, who is heading into the fifth and final day of the Musto Skiff World Championship in Carnac, France.

After a mix of body-bruising conditions, Wayne is still out there taking on the world's best.

Congratulations to Kiera Bates, Sian Harding and Michelle de Blaquiere, who claimed Division 2 honours at the 34th Australian Women’s Keelboat Regatta on Kiera’s J24 Gridlock. The regatta attracted 36 boats from across Australia, and in a closely contested event sailed in light conditions, the team held off strong competition to secure the win.
A shout-out also to Tamzin Rollason, Guiliana Fuscaldo, Lisa Rollinson and Georgina Plumridge as skipper who competed aboard Tamzin’s Windrush. Racing in the highly competitive Division 1, the team finished 14th overall, highlighted by an impressive 2nd place in race 3.

Melbourne turned it on for the final day of the 34th AWKR with breeze and sunshine — Jacobina takes Division 1 and Gridlock wins Division 2 in a thrilling finale.
