Race Report 🏁
Heading down to Queensland Raceway I was feeling pretty excited — it had been 5 months since I’d last been on the track.
I was kitted out in some awesome new gear from Mr Ricondi and Miss Lisa from RACE and ROAD, so at least I looked the part! Thursday practice went really well and I improved every session.
Friday
Q1: We had a couple of mechanical issues that the QLD Junior Cup team of mehcanics quickly sorted, but unfortunately I didn’t record a time. That meant the pressure was on for Q2, where I managed to qualify 4th.
Race 1: I kept my head down and pushed hard, finishing 2nd, just 0.2 seconds behind the leader.
Race 2: Starting from 4th, I managed to work my way to the front and even lead for a while. I had some epic battles throughout the race with Patrick and finished 2nd again, this time by an even closer margin of 0.01 seconds.
Race 3: This was my first ever wet race, and I won’t lie — I was pretty nervous. The nerves got the better of me and I received a 10-second penalty for a jump start. By the first lap though I started feeling comfortable on the track with my new wet tyres. When I saw the jump start board, I knew I needed to build a 10-second lead. With Dad’s advice running through my head, I put my head down and pushed harder each lap, getting faster and faster and breaking away from the pack. I crossed the chequered flag with over a 14-second lead, securing 1st place 🥇.
Race 4: Another exciting wet race with some big overtaking moves around turns 5–6 (enough to make Mum stop watching!) and some great battles with my teammates. I finished 2nd.
I’m absolutely stoked — overall I finished 1st for the weekend, and I finally get to collect my own first-place trophy instead of Dad’s!
