It is terrifying to look bad at something you’ve spent years doing.

That’s why most people stay stuck. They find what works, they stick to it, and they hide their weaknesses so they never have to feel embarrassed.

But the cost of getting better is looking bad.

Sam and Tim did the scariest thing you can do on the mats: they actually listened to feedback. They spent years breaking down their game and fixing their holes.

Last night, we promoted Sam to purple belt and Tim to brown belt.

Growth is just a long series of humbling moments.

New Blue Belt!

This one was a long time coming, literally. It was our 4th attempt at getting this belt on James over the last couple years. Missed the day, disappeared for a year, missed the day, disappeared again... we joked he might just stay a white belt forever out of pure commitment to the bit. But he always came back and it finally happened.

🚒 Special edition Friday open mat.

Our blue belt Hayden, an active ACT Fire & Rescue firefighter, opened the night with a talk on lithium-ion battery safety and his path into the fire service. The truck rolled up downstairs and we spent the rest of the evening rolling, checking out the gear, and chatting with the crew.

Last week we promoted Connor to purple belt.

He's the kind of training partner who genuinely leaves his ego at the door. Sometimes to a fault.

But it's that same quality that has made him a complete, well-rounded grappler and a training partner that lifts everyone around him.
