Tonight I have been officially successful in becoming a new GPS Councillor. I feel very humbled by the unbelievable amount of support and assistance that I have received from the first day that I announced my intention to put my hand up and cannot really find the words to express my gratitude. To my fellow “ Group of 4”(😊) new candidates we came together to assist , promote and support each other throughout the campaign and in the current CV 19 environment and up against 5 returning Councillors it was always going to be a massive challenge to get not just one but 4 new Candidates elected to Council. To Clayton Whitfield and Ian Getsom congratulations on becoming Councillors and to Andrea Mahon well done on a great effort and I truly hope that you do consider nominating at the 2024 elections as I truly believe your commitment and passion for the Shire would be a great asset in the Council Chamber. Congratulations to Gavin Gamble the other successful new Candidate and I look forward to working with the successful returning Councillors in Helena Kirby , Owen Sharkey & Les Rowe. The GPS community has placed their belief and faith in this group of elected Councillors and I look forward to being part of this team . To my beautiful wife and Campaign Manager thank you for your belief, support, assistance and most of all for being the voice of reason 😊😊

This morning I had the pleasure this morning of being interviewed by Mitchell Dye on 94.7 Pulse FM . It was a great opportunity along with other council candidates to be interviewed and to allow GPS residents to hear our thoughts and learn a little bit more about each person .

Brett Cunningham appeared on Mitchell's Front Page to discuss his candidacy for Golden Plains Shire.

Feeling great to be working in this Council Campaign with a great group of fellow candidates who share similar values & beliefs and all want to if given the chance implement real change as newly elected Councillors. Over this weekend the “ Time 4 Change’ team got out and about visiting Bannockburn, Teesdale, Rokewood, Enfield, Corindhap, Napoleon Linton, Dereel, Inverleigh , Smythesdale, Haddon Ross Creek & Meredith- Phew 😊. Over 1500 campaign flyers individually delivered with hope into road side letter boxes and handed out at listening posts that we conducted. On behalf of our team a big thank you for the unbelievable response and the continued support that we received on our quest for real change at the upcoming elections. The other big tick we received was how much it was appreciated that as new candidates we were out and about, clocking up the KMs and doing the hard yards and at all times observing the appropriate CV19 regulations and being available to discuss community concerns and feedback and be questioned about our policies and beliefs. The other interesting comment received several times over the day was - “I hope that some candidates don’t think that by simply sticking a sign on a fence : tree/ power pole and a glossy flyer in my letter box , their getting my vote , why aren’t the local re nominating Councillors like your united ticket team making themselves available to answer the tough questions in person 🤔- great question Time 4 Change.

This morning Clayton Whitfield and myself conducted a meet and greet at the Bannockburn Supermarket that allowed the opportunity for residents to speak to us about our election campaigns and to also voice their concerns. The morning was a great success with over 80 people stopping to talk to us with the majority pledging their support of our united ticket. During our conversations there were constant issues raised eg - the state of our local roads , the state of some of the surrounds in the shire, the total lack of proper Community consultation and the many rate payers that live out side of Bannockburn feeling that their townships are being totally neglected and not being properly represented by the current group of Councillors. Clayton and myself sincerely appreciated the opportunity to be able to speak but more importantly listen to the people we spoke to this morning . Myself and Andrea Mahon will be back at the Bannockburn shopping centre again next Saturday morning from 11.00am - 2.00pm , I look forward to meeting and speaking to more local GPS residents. My name is Brett Cunningham and I am nominating as a candidate at the GPS Council Election as I believe it is now time for change.

Having lived in the shire for approximately 36 years from day one I have always had a strong commitment to being involved in local sporting /community groups and charities serving as a volunteer, and committee member. I currently have the honor of being Chairperson of the Bannockburn & District Connected Communities and the Bannockburn & Surrounds Neighbourhood Watch groups.

In my opinion, it is time for real change, and at the upcoming council elections rate payers have the opportunity to elect a team of new candidates that can offer a fresh start. A united group that will work towards implementing a positive culture, accountability and who will always demonstrate values & behaviours in line with community expectations. A group of councillors that will address the issues that has diminished the community’s perception of council and who if given the opportunity will begin the significant task of regaining the faith & confidence of the local community.

I get extremely frustrated over the unnecessary waste of hard-earned rate payer’s money on items such as significant blow outs of large projects costs, on consultant’s fees on failed projects such as the Inverleigh Street Scape debacle and the unbelievable poor financial performance of the Bannockburn Children’s Centre long day care service. I believe before a council commits to million-dollar projects it firstly needs to get the basics right across the entire shire, continued ongoing planned maintenance of our local roads, surrounds and community facilities.

I listen, I am connected within the community, I bring an all-embracing perspective and I believe I have the skills and experience to connect various segments of our community & council.
I look forward to working together on shared objectives finding attainable solutions regarding issues such as future property developments, community projects and the applicable necessary infrastructure that is required not only for today but most importantly the future of our community.
