Dropping marks on the lead? Struggling to mark the ball out in front?

Let’s break it down first by training the base skill - catching the ball

Then progress to non-pressured marking on the lead

Building the fundamentals makes you more consistent on game day

The most important kick in footy - deceptively hard to execute

Forward 50 kick connection can win you the game - missing them regularly makes the job as a forward really difficult

Drive through the pressure, then balance and take pace off the kick

Practice, reflect, adjust, repeat

Missing easy kicks in games? It’s usually your basics letting you down.

Drill balance first - stationary kicks, one leg only.

Progress to one step for hand-to-foot timing

Then build into kicking on the move

Simple progressions, but this is what makes you reliable when it counts.

Keep following on for more drill ideas to build your game

🏉 That’s a wrap on this term’s School Holiday Footy Clinics!

Massive shoutout to everyone who showed up despite the wild weather!

We worked on the fundamentals, sharpened up our wet weather skills, then built the session into some match-style games to build that on-field instinct.

But above all - we had an absolute blast

We are planning to run more clinics like this into the future - so follow along and tell your friends to come to the next one 🔥

Getting bodied out of contests too easily?

Taking marks inside 50 as a key forward isn’t just about brute force - it’s about craft

Taking back shoulder, quick side changes, reacting when the kicker begins to motion for their kick

Lose your opponent with a drop step and give yourself a free run at the footy

Outsmart beats outmuscle every time

Backyard footy drills p.3

Wall rebounds
A bit more of a reactive drill to build cleanliness, touch and reaction speed.

Beginner 🔥
2 x tennis balls - for developing players looking to build touch with both hands with a simple rebound action

Advanced 📈
2 x footys - progress to this to challenge reaction and cleanliness with the appropriate footy size

Pro 💪🏼
2 tennis balls + 1 footy juggle - the juggle speeds the drill up so quick decision making and cleanliness is significantly tested

Elite 🐐
2 footys + 1 tennis ball - still a work in progress for me - comment a ⬆️ if you are able to do it

End of pre-season pains are normal after you’ve pushed your strength, endurance and speed for a prolonged period of time

Try these exercises if you have got pain in these areas

Patella tendon ➡️ Spanish Squat
Hold the squat at about 60degrees knee flexion. The bands should pull you forward so you don’t fall backwards. Less knee bend if pain is too high or doesn’t improve as you go

Achilles ➡️ SL Smith Calf Iso
Can be loaded or bodyweight dependent on how it feels - bodyweight go for longer holds around 45s

Hamstring ➡️ Reverse Plank
Benches closer and less weight if too sore. Keep alternating legs for full effect

Groins ➡️ Copenhagens
More leg on bench is easier (eg. Knee on bench easier than just foot)

Give these a go up to 3x per day and watch your pain disappear
