GP Lama

GP Lama Husband. Internetwork technology expert. Cyclist. Traveller. Bone breaker. Melbourne, sometimes. Llamas. Always llamas. Mostly bikes and technology.

With years of industry experience in the technology space, I'm using that knowledge and skill set to demystify and further promote the use of technology in the cycle sport domain. I've been blogging for years over on my website. Race reports, rides, travel, everything Australia. In the last few years there's been a huge convergence of the two. (Our bike computers now have WiFi!) YouTube is also an

other platform I've used to share the adventure. Through my years of racing I've ridden ergos (indoor cycling) a lot. I own more indoor trainers than shoes. I've also use ALL the software from Spinervals, Trainer Road, Sufferfest (with Knighthood!), Zwift, etc. TACX have mentioned that I've been a huge influence in making 'indoor training exciting'.

Why can the same workout at the same average power and cadence feel noticeably harder on one smart trainer than another? After completing the same 300W ERG workout across seven sessions, I analysed the short-term variability in power, crank torque, and cadence to see whether we can finally put a number to smart-trainer ride feel. 📈📊🚴🏼‍♂️⚡️

The results lined up surprisingly well with how each trainer felt, and how fatigued I was after each interval.

Here’s what I found: https://youtu.be/6uKxT6FEJFM

Garmin Edge update 32.20 is here for the Edge 550, 850, 1050, and Edge MTB with undocumented changes to radar alerts too! But where’s the update for the Edge 540, 840, and 1040? 🤔

The Varia RearVue 820 may be Garmin’s most advanced radar, but it isn’t the straightforward RTL515 replacement many riders wanted. Here’s my case for a simpler US$199 RTL525 with USB-C, longer battery life and the proven radar behaviour we already trust.

Small, light, and reasonably accurate - but with the recently released firmware v1.08, is the iGPSport SRMini radar still simply too chirpy? 🤔

Here’s an interesting one not spotted in any TdF 2026 tech coverage to date. Team Bahrain Victorious using Favero Assioma PRO RS-2 power meter pedals when they’ve only recently announced a multi-year partnership with another power meter company. 🤔
