This year marks 14 years for me in the fitness industry, 12 years at YMCA and 10 years of running my Saturday Bootcamp! 🥳
Being a Personal Trainer has allowed me to grow as a person, understand others, be open to change, embrace tough times but also help people gain confidence, achieve their goals and form many great friendships!
Apart from 1:1 PT, I’ve also been fortunate enough to develop my own Bootcamp, HIIT class and strong Women program. I’ve also run my own 8 week challenges, supported clients online when they couldn’t see me in person and even switched up my business model during COVID!
For those that are contemplating getting into the fitness industry, these would be my 3 tips:
1. Be the most approachable PT on the gym floor. Build genuine connections with members, get to know your niche, put in the hours on the floor and train in your workplace. You’re a walking billboard for your business.
2. Plan your sessions and never stop learning: Sure you could wing your clients workouts everyday but running the clock down with banter and subpar training sessions is a disservice to your business and client. Prospective clients are always watching.
3. Be prepared to embrace the fact that Personal Training is wearing many more hats than just telling clients what exercise they’re doing next. There’s early starts, varied work weeks, unpaid admin hours, you’re selling yourself, you’re checking in with clients, you’re getting to know members, you’re writing programs, you’re doing social media, you’ll be there for clients during their happiest and saddest times and you’re gonna hate tax time if you don’t know your numbers 😂
I’ve been doing this since I was 19 and I’m truly grateful for everyone that I’ve met and trained along the way! Special mention to those that have supported/ shared my content, referred friends and family members to me, those that have helped me in business when I had no idea what I was doing and my family and friends who are just SO supportive in everything I do! Means the world to me ♥️
