Originally established in 1977 as the Willunga Hockey Club, a change in location and name saw the Aldinga Bay Hockey Club Inc. ('Stingrays') formed in 1995. We proudly celebrated our 20th Anniversary in 2015. Over that time, we have grown significantly with our own established identity, our own hockey fields and a strong membership base which continues to grow each year. Our Committee, Members and
volunteers have worked hard to build a sense of community participation and wellbeing throughout our history. Aldinga Bay Hockey Club is the only field hockey club within the City of Onkaparinga, the largest City Council in Adelaide, South Australia. We welcome both junior and senior participants and currently have 10 teams (4 senior men, 3 senior women and 3 junior teams) playing within the South Coast Hockey Association's competition. We also offer a fun, informal Summer Hockey competition with a relaxed, social atmosphere -perfect for those who want to come and try! Home games provide players and spectators with excellent BBQ and canteen facilities. Aldinga Bay Hockey Club has been overwhelmingly successful in achieving a number of senior and junior premierships, in various grades and age levels. This has not been limited to local competition: we have enjoyed wins in several Country Carnivals won as well. Each year there is opportunity for our junior players to participate in SAPSASA Hockey and the SA Regional Junior Hockey Championships. A number of our past and present players have participated in Regional, State and National events at both junior and senior levels. We promote active participation regardless of skill level and ability by offering a comparatively low cost sport in a family friendly, safe and supportive environment. Emphasis is placed on safety during the game; every member of ABHC must act with consideration for the safety of others and relevant legislation must be observed. In recognizing our place and importance in the local community, the Aldinga Bay Hockey Club actively participates in hosting events and activities in the region and supporting the community. For example, training clinics and development programs in schools in the area, offering an alternative to mainstream sports that are currently promoted to local children. The Aldinga Bay Hockey Club is committed to promoting field hockey in the southern region of Adelaide. We offer the community an internationally recognized sport which is played at the Commonwealth and Olympic Games level for both recreation and leisure. Not a player? No worries! We also gratefully welcome volunteers to assist with various roles e.g. Committee positions, BBQ, canteen and bar and more. The winter hockey season runs from mid April through to September when the finals are held whilst the summer competition starts in November. Like to know more?
