Burn out is an intense feeling of mental and physical exhaustion and energy depletion. Burn out can lead to negative thoughts, fatigue, illness, lack of sleep, headaches, lack of motivation, and changes in appetite. Burn out also feels like a sense of reduced accomplishment and loss of personal identity.
How can you avoid burn out?
Speak with someone: Whether it's a friend, family member, colleague or manager, tell them how you're feeling and seek support. Many work places offer employee assistance programs to support staff.
Do calming activities: walks with no phone, sauna (if accessible), long baths or showers, meditation, listening to calming noises (white noise, rain), or stretching.
Low impact exercise: when you exercise your body releases endorphins (happy hormones), try slow movements such as Pilates, yoga that focuses on breathe to reduce stress.
Prioritise a sleep: when you sleep your body works to repair, grow and replenish its bodily functions. Try magnesium or having a bath to help you fall asleep.
Breathe work: focusing on your breathe can do wonders in calming the the bodies nervous system, which will reduce stress and allow you to feel more in control both mentally and physically.
