A fair weather hiker is a HAPPY HIKER :-)

This is the Munich branch of MUMMIES exploiting the Bavarian apls for fun, sweat & tears, but mostly ice-cream :-)

Rule 1 of MUMMIES
- absolutely no climbs of 1000m or over :-)
Rule 2 of MUMMIES
- absolutely no Klettersteigs :-)
Rule 3 of MUMMIES
- there is no Fight Club ;-)

Moderate mountain hiking == 500m to 1000m climbs within 6 hours, usually including 1 up, 1 summit and 1 down.

Map update April 2019. Now know the cause for going the wrong way last time! Was due to a new forest track which is not marked on the original map which also has priority. Trail 19 leaves the main track going down an older track. So pay attention at this point to avoid taking the alternative route and missing nice cold Radlers at the Hütte at Romanshöhe. In any case new signposts have been put up since 2017 which mark the way.

Perfect sunny, cool day out on the Aufacker at Oberammergau. Actually managed to go the right way this time! So smashed some Radler and ice-cream at the Hütte at Romanshöhe. Sadly recent storms have brought down some pine trees and we scrambled over and under about a dozen trees lying across the trail. The area is not decimated by any means but some clearing up is required before everyone, young and old can climb the path up to the summit unhindered. There are loads of new yellow signs posting the way from the summit to Romanshöhe, so no longer any reason to get lost. Still worth the trip 😍

It may be the long winter in Game of Thrones but Spring has definitely arrived in Bavaria, so the Mummies season kicks off tomorrow with a practice run up the Aufacker ☀️☀️☀️

Perfectly placed at 1700m, this trail touched the clouds 200m below the Seefelder Spitze. We dodged the forecasted rain until the last part of the descent, which just goes to prove you should take Internet weather forecasts with a pinch of salt. We took the funicular up to the middle station at the Rosshütte but you could just about qualify for a MUMMIES hike with a 500m climb up from the bottom. But hey, life's too short for slogging up hill. Nice hike. Simple and very moderate.

8 hours, 500m climb. Moderately extreme 😉 Up. Down. Ice-cream. Yeah sure but with a whole lot of sweat involved. Surely ...

8 hours, 500m climb. Moderately extreme 😉 Up. Down. Ice-cream. Yeah sure but with a whole lot of sweat involved. Surely one of the best hikes MUMMIES can do. 5 star hike with 5 star ice-cream in Sault. Amazing, spectacular.

A very pleasant hike around the Bois de Fayette, south of Sault, along shaded paths and up to the trig point at La Peine. Rewarded with a beautiful lavender field at the top and a stunning 360 view including Mont Ventoux. 5 hours, 9 km and a very moderate 260m ascent. Pleasant MUMMIES hike, just right for the 33 degree heat, rounded off with the best ice-cream in years.

The Aufacker return route via the Hütte at Romanshöhe is tricky to find. Done the hike 3 times, went the wrong way twice...

The Aufacker return route via the Hütte at Romanshöhe is tricky to find. Done the hike 3 times, went the wrong way twice!! There is a forest track which is not marked on the Kompass map that goes off left and downhill but this is the wrong route and somehow you have to find a path down to another track which eventually leads to Romanshöhe. Can't be more specific than that without some photos :-( I have marked the incorrect route as an "alternative route" which does lead back to the car park but not via the Hütte and is not so rewarding.

Stand down MUMMIES! Weather forecast for the Garmisch region over the Easter weekend is pants. 1 degree C on Sunday/Monday just ain't warm enough for ice-cream. So, boots back in the box :-( Friday is looking the best day for hiking but goin' out Thursday night to drink oodles of beer. So there is no Friday ;-)

The MUMMIES are restless. Its time to dust off your tomb and prepare for moderate uphill moaning. Easter is approaching and if the weather holds out we will be scaling the Aufacker one day over the long weekend. So, knock the dried mud of your booties and prepare for ice cream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream. 😁
