FLASHBACK FRIDAY - Featured in the pages of Referee magazine several years ago was the pregame ritual of Big 12 Conference football official Gene Semko, which included yoga, seated meditation, and - yes - a headstand!

It is with a heavy heart that BAFRA share the news that one of our officials sadly passed away today.

The official collapsed while covering a game and was tended to by medics present at the game, and then further by nhs paramedics.

While BAFRA works with the officials’ next of kin, and its membership, we will not be making/giving any further comments and ask the Britball community to not speculate or share news out of respect.

We would like to thank all those at the game who offered their help, gave treatment, and to the emergency services who attened.

Offizielle Stellungnahme des AFSÖ

Der Verein AFSÖ - American Football Schiedsrichter Österreich hat die Vorkommnisse rund um das Spiel Fehérvár Enthroners vs. Danube Dragons geprüft.

Nach aktuellem Stand wurde in der Schlussphase des Spiels ein Down fehlerhaft verwaltet, wodurch dem angreifenden Team ein weiterer Versuch nicht zur Verfügung stand. Dieser Fehler hätte nicht passieren dürfen und hatte potenziell erhebliche Auswirkungen auf den weiteren Spielverlauf.

Die Situation wird derzeit intern vollständig aufgearbeitet. Dazu gehören die Analyse der Kommunikation innerhalb der Crew sowie der bestehenden Abläufe und Kontrollmechanismen.

Wir stehen zu unserer Verantwortung und werden die notwendigen Maßnahmen ergreifen, um vergleichbare Situationen künftig bestmöglich zu verhindern.

Gleichzeitig bitten wir darum, gegenüber allen Beteiligten respektvoll zu bleiben. Fehler gehören leider auch im Officiating zum Sport, persönliche Anfeindungen gegenüber einzelnen Schiedsrichtern sind jedoch nicht akzeptabel.
