English Walks

English Walks Englischkonversation beim Gehen mit Native Speaker "brush up your English" Schulenglisch ist ausreichend und ein Einstieg ist jederzeit möglich.

We discovered in an old edition of the french journal "Écoute" an article mentioning the food bowls used in the Middle Ages. The lucky ones had a hand carved food bowl and spoon of their own, which was rather rare. "DEN LÖFFEL ABGEBEN" {to pass the spoon/to kick the bucket} **) The saying dates back to a time when people owned their own personal spoons, which were often hung on a wall rack.
“Handing over” or “hanging up” the spoon signaled the end of a meal. Farmhands or maids were often lent spoon and bowl on farms. Upon termination of service (or death), it had to be returned, symbolizing the loss of one’s livelihood.
After death, the personal spoon was often passed down within the family to the youngest member.

In our discussions so far, we have noted: A fit of laughter, laughter itself, is a physical — often uncontrollable — reaction to external stimuli. However, a smile (not a malicious one) also responds to what you experience, reflecting your positive, intentional feeling of joy, friendliness and goodwill.

We talked about 𝗹𝗮𝘂𝗴𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹𝘀. They do it particularly in the form of "play vocalizations"{Stimmlaute} during tickling, wrestling, or chasing.

On May 20, 2014, twelve years ago, our "Canadian Lady," Kim, declared, "I want to hike forest trails several times a week in a relaxed atmosphere and chat in English with people in small groups." So she and Alexandra set off on the "3-Stunden-Weg" on the Anninger. We laughed it off at the time, but now we know better! It works, and she’s still at it with childlike enthusiasm. ☺️

Lilian: ... My first reaction when the AI spit out really good analysis results and comparison tables{Vergleichtstabellen} was one of shock. I’ve always considered that beeing one of my strengths: clearly distilling complexity down to the essentials{auf das Wesentliche reduzieren}... ...
That prompted us to ask AI (Gemini): Can we trust what you say? The answer was quite extensive and impressive... Here is the closing sentence:
Tip: Think of AI as a highly talented but occasionally dishonest intern{flunkernden Praktikanten}. You’re the editor-in-chief. The intern provides the draft{Entwurf}, but you’re responsible for the accuracy{Wahrheitsgehalt} and quality of the final product.

as part of our preparation: an analysis of different types of relationships with friends.
Here are the first few lines of the transcript in English.

In a 2008 study, psychologists asked participants to rate the steepness of a hill. Those who were accompanied by a good friend judged the hill to be less steep than people who were alone. This is just one of many ways friendships can change how we see and move through the world.....

Our discussion:
There are people you find likable right from the start...
whose company makes you feel at ease...
with whom you’re naturally willing to communicate and find a way to connect...
with whom it’s a pleasure to exchange ideas...
with whom it’s a pleasure to do things together...
with whom it’s a pleasure to share memories...

The degree of friendship
depends on the intensity of mutual appreciation and the frequency of contact.
