I’ve been in rehab after my knee replacement and shoulder surgery for 3 weeks. It’s a service offered on your health insurance in Austria to get you back on track after surgery and it has been an amazing experience.
I’ll tell you all about in my blog coming up in the next couple of weeks.

Don’t Be ā€œThatā€ E-Biker šŸ˜„ - 7 Simple Ways to Be Polite on Bike Paths 🚓

1. Respect Walkers - we can all share

2. Slow Down When Passing - cyclists or walkers

3. Use Your Bell Politely - a frantic "MOVE", doesn't help anyone

4. Don’t Block the Whole Path - when you stop for the photo

5. Keep Right (or Follow Local Rules) - generally in Europe, it's the right!

6. Be Patient With Beginners - not everyone is an ebike expert yet!

7. Say "hello" - this is meant to be fun, smile and say hi!

Weekend plans?

Mine involve an e-bike, questionable map-reading skills and stopping every time I see a lake, bakery or beautiful view šŸ˜„

This is the problem with e-biking in Europe.
You start the day planning 40 km… and finish it three strudels later, wondering where the afternoon went.

Honestly, though, that’s the best part of it.

I always laugh when people say e-bike touring is ā€œcheatingā€ šŸ˜„

Meanwhile, I’m out there doing:
• exercise
• fresh air
• sightseeing
• cafĆ© research
• strudel testing
• vineyard inspections

Honestly, it sounds more like excellent life choices to me.

And the best bit? You finish the ride smiling instead of needing two days to recover.

A day out on the e-bike in the Gasteinertal never disappoints šŸš²ā›°ļø

Fresh mountain air, riverside paths, little villages, waterfalls and plenty of places to stop for coffee or lunch along the way. It’s one of those places where you end up slowing down without even meaning to.

Perfect for a relaxed ride, taking in the scenery and just enjoying being outdoors on two wheels.

More and more people are choosing e-bikes for one simple reason…

You actually get to enjoy the journey.

Not rushing.
Not racing.
Just riding, stopping, eating cake and seeing places properly again.

Did you know Austria has its own ā€œfalse springā€ warning every May? ā„ļøšŸŒ±

It’s called the Ice Saints or Eisheiligen in German.

Every year between 11th and 15th May, many Austrians expect one last burst of cold weather before summer properly arrives. Even if it’s been warm for weeks, gardeners and farmers still nervously watch the forecast during these days because frost can suddenly return overnight.

The tradition is linked to several saints’ days in the calendar, and for generations, people believed:
ā€œDon’t plant delicate flowers or vegetables until the Ice Saints are over.ā€

And honestly… in Austria, they’re often right šŸ˜„

You’ll still hear locals talking about it every May while covering plants, checking vineyards, and wondering if they need the heating back on again for ā€œjust one more nightā€.

E-bike trend for 2026?
Apparently, it’s smart systems, AI and fancy tech…

Meanwhile most of us are just here for:
ā˜• coffee stops
🌳 nice views
😌 less stress
🚲 and not arriving exhausted

And honestly… that sounds perfect to me.ā€

Cycling through Lower Austria last weekend, we spotted these white squiggles all over the road…

Naturally, we asked what they were šŸ‘€

Turns out (at least in this village)…
they’re drawn by sweethearts marking the way to each other’s houses šŸ’›

And yes… apparently the initials go outside the front door šŸ˜„

Is it an official tradition? Not really.
Is it a very Austrian mix of romance, community, and a bit of fun? Absolutely.

One of those little things you’d completely miss in a car…
But on an e-bike, you notice everything 🚲

Ever wondered why there’s a giant decorated pole suddenly in the middle of Austrian villages at the beginning of May? 🌿

That’s the Maibaum… a tradition that celebrates the end of winter, the start of longer days, and basically life getting better again ā˜€ļø

But here’s the fun part…
They don’t just put it up and go home.

They guard it. All night. šŸ‘€

Because other villages might try to steal it šŸ˜„

And if they succeed… It's really embaressing plus you have to buy it back with beer and food šŸ»

Only in Austria would guarding a tree turn into a social event šŸ˜‚

If you’re planning your first e-bike trip and already thinking
ā€œthis sounds like a lot of effortā€¦ā€

Don’t worry.

This isn’t military planning… it’s more ā€œwhere shall we stop for coffee?ā€ ā˜•šŸ˜‰
