Did you know Austria has its own āfalse springā warning every May? āļøš±
Itās called the Ice Saints or Eisheiligen in German.
Every year between 11th and 15th May, many Austrians expect one last burst of cold weather before summer properly arrives. Even if itās been warm for weeks, gardeners and farmers still nervously watch the forecast during these days because frost can suddenly return overnight.
The tradition is linked to several saintsā days in the calendar, and for generations, people believed:
āDonāt plant delicate flowers or vegetables until the Ice Saints are over.ā
And honestly⦠in Austria, theyāre often right š
Youāll still hear locals talking about it every May while covering plants, checking vineyards, and wondering if they need the heating back on again for ājust one more nightā.
