🍇 Four days. Four circular rides. One base in South Styria.

I first shared my South Styria route review a few weeks ago, but since then I've completely reworked the way I present my route reviews on Ebike Europe.

The new format is much easier to explore and includes the things I think really matter when you're planning an e-bike holiday: what the routes are actually like, where to stop, what to look out for and, importantly, what I really thought of them.

And South Styria gave me plenty to talk about. Vineyards, pumpkin fields, wonderful food, some fairly serious hills... and even one route I probably wouldn't ride again!

🚲 The View from Lindsey’s Saddle: South Styria quietly won me over.

Have a look at the new review and let me know what you think of the new format.

Four days of e-biking in the Mühlviertel and the legs are definitely feeling it! 🚴‍♀️😅

This was a very different side of Austria for us. Lots of rolling farmland, cornfields, hops and, most importantly, plenty of hills!

One day took us through the Bohemian Forest, across the border into the Czech Republic and alongside the Moldaustausee. The other days were a real mix of quiet country roads, farms and long climbs followed by some very rewarding descents. 😁

It might not have the dramatic mountain scenery of some of our Austrian rides, but that’s exactly what made it interesting. Somewhere new, a completely different landscape and four days of good cycling.

Now I think my legs have earned a day off! 😂

On Friday I mentioned that September might just be one of my favourite months for e-biking… and it got me thinking about all the reasons why. 🍂🚲

Cooler days, quieter cycle paths, harvest season, beautiful light and, hopefully, fewer wasps trying to steal my bun at the coffee stop! 😂

So I've put them all together in my latest blog: September E-Biking: Why It’s the Perfect Time to Ride.

If you're thinking there's not much cycling season left, think again. September could be one of the best bits.

🍂 Is September actually the best month for an e-bike holiday in Europe?

I’m a fan!

The school holiday crowds start disappearing, the temperatures are usually kinder, the cycle paths become quieter, and there’s still plenty of daylight for a good day out.

And then there’s that first little hint of autumn... 🍁🚲

For me, September is becoming one of my favourite months to travel by e-bike.

What about you? Would you choose June, July, August or September for a cycling holiday?

Tuesday Tip 🚲 Don’t plan your e-bike day around kilometres

It’s easy to look at a route and think, “50 km? We’ll be finished by lunchtime.”

But 50 km through beautiful countryside, with a coffee stop, a village you weren’t planning to explore, a viewpoint that deserves a photo and a long lunch can quite happily fill your day.

My tip? When planning an e-bike holiday or a day out, look at what there is to see along the way, not just how far you can ride.

After all, having an e-bike means you can go further. It doesn’t mean you have to. 😉

Sometimes the best part of an ebike ride is simply stopping.

No kilometres to count, no hills to conquer, just a bike, a beautiful view and a few minutes to take it all in.

This is exactly why I love exploring Europe by ebike. You see so much more when you slow down. 🚲💚

🍇 **Have you ever thought about South Styria for an e-bike holiday?**

We spent four days exploring this beautiful corner of Austria and I think it deserves far more attention.

Vineyards, pumpkin and corn fields, orchards full of ripe peaches, quiet country roads and plenty of hills to make us appreciate our e-bikes! 🚲

And naturally, we found time for a Buschenschank stop and a rather impressive Winzer platter.

This little video gives you a taste of our trip. If it tempts you, my full 4-day South Styria route review is also on Ebike Europe.

A couple of weeks ago, I wrote about why a centre-based cycling holiday can be such a great way to explore an area by e-bike.

So, you've decided that staying in one place and heading off on a different ride each day sounds like the holiday for you.

Now comes the big question: where should you base yourself? 🚲 🏡

In my latest blog, I look at how I choose the right base, from finding several different routes from the door to train connections, cafés, restaurants, supermarkets and secure bike storage.

And, of course, somewhere comfortable enough for that inevitable Day 3 moment when the cycling is finished, the pyjamas are on, and you're definitely not going out again! 😂

🍇 Four days, 198 km and a very different side of Austria…

Our latest e-bike route review takes us through South Styria, around Deutschlandsberg and Kitzeck.

Think rolling vineyards, pumpkin fields, quiet country roads, pretty villages and plenty of opportunities to stop for coffee, cake or a traditional Buschenschank lunch. Add in Schilcher wine and the wonderful smell of pumpkin seed oil being produced, and you have a region that’s made for slow travel.

Not every kilometre was perfect, and there were a few surprisingly steep hills along the way, but that’s all part of an honest route review!

🚴‍♀️ Do you really need to change hotels every day on a cycling holiday?

I'm not so sure anymore.

After another hot European summer, I've realised just how much I enjoy centre-based cycling holidays (also called hub & spoke tours or stay & tour).

Instead of packing every morning, you stay in one place and enjoy a different ride each day.

It means you can:
☀️ Set off early before the heat.
🏊 Be back in time for a swim.
⛈️ Avoid those afternoon mountain storms.
☕ Stop for coffee without watching the clock.
🌿 Really get to know the area instead of simply passing through.

I also share how Pete and I plan our own trips, including our simple north, south, east and west approach to exploring a new destination.

If you're thinking about your next e-bike holiday in Europe, this might just give you a different way to travel.

The inspiration for the blog came from our recent four day trip to South Styria, where staying in one place made the whole holiday far more relaxing.
