The 2025/26 season for Real Madrid honestly felt like the start of a completely new era.
Everything changed.
New coach, new stars, old legends leaving, dressing room drama, injuries, and a lot of pressure from fans.
The biggest talking point was the arrival of Kylian Mbappé. Everyone expected Madrid to dominate Europe with Mbappé, Vinícius, Bellingham and Rodrygo together. There were flashes of brilliance, but the team never looked fully balanced throughout the season.
This season also became emotional because several club legends left:
Luka Modrić already left before the season began.
Dani Carvajal and David Alaba played their farewell matches at the Bernabéu.
Lucas Vázquez also departed.
On the bench, Carlo Ancelotti’s era officially ended, and Xabi Alonso arrived with huge expectations. But things did not go as planned. Results became inconsistent, there were internal problems, and eventually Alonso left during the season. Álvaro Arbeloa took charge later, but the club still finished without major trophies again.
Injuries were another huge problem all year:
Ferland Mendy suffered repeated injuries.
The defense never looked stable consistently.
Players were constantly rotating.
Positive side?
Jude Bellingham again showed leadership.
Mbappé still produced important goals and moments.
Young players gained experience.
New signings like Trent Alexander-Arnold, Dean Huijsen and Franco Mastantuono showed Madrid are building for the future.
But overall, this season will probably be remembered more as a transition season than a successful one.
It felt like: “the end of one legendary generation and the beginning of another.”
No big trophies, lots of pressure, emotional goodbyes, and many lessons for the future.
Now all eyes are on next season to see if Madrid can rise again like they always do. 🤍
