Match Report By JK
Ceylon Legends vs Thiruvalluvan Cricket Club
Turf & Grassy Ground UAE, Dubai
7th February 2026 – 7:31 AM
The Fog, The Over-40s, and The Mission
While most over-40 gentlemen in Dubai were romantically committed to their pillows at 6:00 AM on a foggy Saturday morning, Ceylon Legends players were hugging their cricket kits instead.
By 7:10 AM, Legends were already on the field, stretching muscles that probably needed separate warm-up insurance.
Captain Chamil, clearly blessed by cricketing fortune, won the toss and chose to field. Smart move. Especially considering Legends fielded 7 players over 50, while the opposition looked like they had just graduated from corporate team-building sessions in their early 30s.
Experience vs Energy. Wisdom vs WiFi Speed.
First Innings – Containing the Youth
Two Sams opened the bowling.
Sam F was immediately unhappy with the ball’s seam. Apparently the red leather did not meet his quality standards. After a short technical inspection, he proceeded anyway, rhythm slightly rusty after a decent sabbatical from competitive cricket.
Sam K, however, had no such philosophical concerns. He hit the deck from ball one and quietly collected 2 wickets in 4 overs for 29 runs like a disciplined senior accountant balancing books.
Then came the revival duo.
When the opposition started finding their groove, Ricky Sudar with 4 overs for 19 runs and 3 wickets and Imran Meyen with 2 overs for 18 runs and 3 wickets decided enough was enough. Six wickets between them. Control restored. Experience upgraded.
Yes, Jagath and Stanley supported the opposition generously for a few overs, but Legends are known for hospitality. It is cultural.
Captain Chamil bowled just one over for 6 runs and honestly, judging by how tight it was, one wonders what might have happened if he had bowled earlier. But this is Legends cricket. Strategy discussions happen after the match, preferably with tea.
The opposition posted 177 for 9 in 20 overs. Given the damp outfield and slippery conditions, it was a respectable total.
The Real Hero – Mahesh’s Redemption Story
Now comes the blockbuster.
Wicketkeeper Mahesh arrived declaring he had not touched a cricket ball in 4 months.
Confidence level 100 percent.
Reality check. First catch dropped.
At that exact moment, every Legend thought, “Ah yes, the usual Saturday script.”
But Mahesh had other plans.
He kept for the full 20 overs, standing up to the stumps, and ended with 3 excellent catches, 2 fabulous stumpings, and 1 involvement in a run-out.
From “have not touched a ball in 4 months” to unofficial Man of the Match of the first innings. That is Legends cinema.
The Chase – Pure Class From The Veterans
Chasing 178 on a damp morning pitch is no joke.
Enter Ronil Cooray and Prasad K.A.C.
For the next 16.2 overs, they treated the ground like their private batting academy.
Ronil Cooray
46 off 26 balls
8 boundaries
Strike Rate 176.92
Technically, he scored a fifty. The scoreboard glitch allocated some of his runs to Prasad early on. So officially 46. Emotionally, solid footy.
He played with authority, elegance, and the calmness of someone who has seen enough cricket to know panic is for younger teams.
Prasad K.A.C. – Masterclass
Now let us talk about Prasad.
88 off 47 balls
16 boundaries
Strike Rate 187.23
From ball one, he was middling everything. Cover drives. Pulls. Straight hits. Boundaries everywhere.
He anchored the chase beautifully and made 177 look like 127.
Everyone was waiting for the century. It looked easy. It looked inevitable.
But cricket is dramatic. He fell short of the three-figure milestone, though by then the match was practically over.
Man of the Match deservedly went to Prasad.
Finishing Touches
After Ronil and Prasad laid the foundation, Captain Chamil with 15 not out off 9 balls ensured stability and Stanley with 9 not out off 6 balls finished the chase calmly.
Final Score
Ceylon Legends 179 for 5 in 16.2 overs.
Victory achieved with overs to spare.
Against a younger team. On a damp morning. With seven players over 50.
Experience greater than Fitness App.
Summary of Performances
Prasad – Batting masterclass with 88.
Mahesh – Wicketkeeping heroics.
Ricky and Imran – Game-changing spells.
Sam K – Controlled opening burst.
Ronil – Explosive start.
Looks like it was also Sri Lankan Hoteliers’ Day, with Prasad and Ricky representing the hospitality industry in style. If this is how they manage hotels, bookings must be full.
Final Word
It was not just a win. It was a statement.
Ceylon Legends showed that cricket is not about age. It is about timing. And these gentlemen still know exactly when to middle the ball and when to enjoy the game together.
Winning is good. Playing together as Legends is even better
